Gojira band 2016

Gojira is on the road as they head towards the release of their new album, Magma, due from Roadrunner Records on June 17th. Watch a fan-filmed live performance of their new song ‘Stranded’, at this link or below:

https://youtu.be/s6dgPi_8F0

Magma is the bands’ first new release since 2012’s L’Enfant Sauvage. It was produced and recorded by the band in frontman Joe Duplatier’s own Silver Cord Studio in Queens, NY.

Duplaniter discussed making the album in a recent interview:

“We want a short album. Something less epic than what we usually do. People’s attentions are shorter now. So a lot of the songs are four minutes.”

Discussing the delay of the new album, partially due to the death of his and brother Mario’s mother last summer:

“I felt physically, mentally exhausted. At the same time, though, the way it happened was beautiful. We were all around her. We had to cancel a few shows when she died, but it was very enriching at the same time. We learned a lot about death.”

Mario also commented on the impact the loss had on new music:

“When you read Joe’s lyrics, for me, I cry right away.”They’re very deep and to the point. No bullshit. We recycle our sadness and depression in the music.”

Joseph continued:

“Mario was recording drums, and I was playing guitar with him, just trying to help him know where he’s at in the song, and both of us would start crying at the same time,”

“The songs were half-written while she was sick,” he said. “After she died, I still had to finish them. So one song was like, ‘You’re going to make it,’ but the second verse is ‘You didn’t make it.'”

Metallica’s New Album To Be Completed This Summer

Lars Ulrich of Metallica, by Victoria Anderson

Lars Ulrich of Metallica, by Victoria Anderson

In a new published interview, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich confirmed that the band’s long-awaited new album would be completed this summer. The bands hasn’t released a new studio album since 2009’s Death Magnetic.

We’re now coming towards the end of the musical creative process and we’re starting to look ahead and the process of how we’re gonna share this record with the universe.”

Lars talked about the timeline of finally finishing and releasing the new album, the band’s 10th studio release:

The month of June is basically when we’re gonna sit down and figure what we’re gonna do with it all; what we’re gonna call it and what’s gonna be on it.”

Previously frontman James Hetfiled promised fans a new album by late 2016 or early 2017. This spring guitarist Kirk Hammett stated Metallica had tapped producer Greg Fidelman(Death Magnetic) for the new album.

Lars also discussed Fidelman: “Greg Fidelman is 24/7 on this record and has been since last summer. He’s doing an insanely great job and has been putting his heart and soul in it pretty much every waking moment of his life in helping us engineer and produce this record”.

Regarding an actual release date:

If the record doesn’t come out this year then it won’t be because it’s not done. It will be because there’s some sort of cosmic reason that it would be smarter to hold onto it until next year. But the record will be done this summer.”

New Devin Townsend Project Album Due This Fall- Transcendence

Devin Townsend Project Transcendance ghostcultmag

Modern progressive rock and metal masters Devin Townsend Project have announced their new album, Transcendence, due September 2nd from InsideOut Music. Further information about the album is pending.

Devin Townsend himself commented about the new music:

Transcendence, like every record I’ve done prior, is an extension of what’s been going on in my world, represented in a new batch of songs. I’m 44 years old now, and this is where I have been over the past two years since ‘Z2‘. The result of this process is a record that I truly think the intention of is special. I ‘found’ gas to put into the tank and am glad I did. I think the intention, the theme, and the participation of everyone involved allows this album to act like a fulcrum between the past few years and what I intend to do next with the symphony. I am very proud of it and everyone involved.”

Devin also commented on the mystical themed artwork for Transcendence created by Anthony Clarkson:

He presented me the main image of the girl as a painted version, and I was intrigued and asked him to redo it with a girl he knew with photos. I liked the idea that it seemed like a mash up of religious and spiritual imagery, in a sense, representing the idea (to me) that these types of connections to the infinite are often more like identities we can cling to rather than what lies behind. In a sense, the character on the front almost seems like the ideologies she’s representing are more ‘brand names’ than anything else.”

In addition to US tour dates announced with Between the Buried And Me, support of the new album will begin with a tour of Canada with Fallujah.

SEPT 04: Starlite Room – Edmonton, AB
SEPT 06: Pyramid Cabaret – Winnipeg, MB

Video: Stuck Mojo -Verbal Combat Lyric Video, Pledge Campaign For New Album Launched

stuckmojoinfidelscover

Stuck Mojo has risen again with new music, a new lyric video, and a new lineup. They released the lyric video to a new song, ‘Verbal Combat’, which you can see at this link or below:

Stuck Mojo leader Rich Ward commented on the Pledge Music campaign launched to support their new album, Here Come The Infidels:

“Pledge Music is a perfect fit for us. This time we’re not just putting out a record like bands have done since the dawn of the record industry, we’re offering it directly to YOU. Pledge Music has become our virtual merch booth, where you can buy a CD, a limited-edition LP in red vinyl and a t-shirt directly from us, just like you would at one of our shows. And unlike traditional retail chain stores, Pledge Music also allows us to offer signed CDs, LPs and posters, in addition to all kinds of one of a kind items, right from our Pledge store.”

Produced by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Exodus, Testament, Killswitch Engage, Accept), Ward also commented on that relationship:

“Let me get this out of the way: I love Andy Sneap. He is arguably the best metal producer in the world, and his leadership in the making of this record has elevated it to a standard that few albums achieve. Plus, we had a great time seeing how loud we could turn up a guitar amplifier for an extended period of time.”

The band ha been relaunched with another new lineup with Rapper Robby J. and bassist Len Sonnier. On Robby J., Ward opined:

Robby J is a fucking ninja, the total package vocalist/frontman. Mark my words, this guy is going to set a new standard for what a band with a rapper looks like.”

Stuck Mojo new lineup:

Rich Ward – Guitars/vocals

Robyy J – Vocals

Len Sonnier – Bass

Frank “Bud” Fontsere – Drums

Here Come The Infidels will release on June 24th. Here is a link to the full Pledge campaign, complete with tons of free extras for even lowest levels of support. The band describes the album as “an album for this moment in history, as it escalates Stuck Mojos rich history of desecrating the remains of Che’ Guevara and causing your Prius to emit plumes of black smoke. Its overwhelming lyrical rebuke against leftist, authoritarian, fascist dogma makes ‘Here Come The Infidels’ a 41-minute-and-18-second pushback against the social justice movement.”

Video: Caricature To Release 27 Minute Song About A Cat

Carciature Stampede cover ghostcultmag

Caricature has teased a brand new song, reported to be a 27-minute long epic progressive metal song titled ‘Stampede’, due for release at the end of the month. Moreover, the song is based on frontman Joseph Spiller and his friendship with his cat, Parmesan. You can watch the teaser at this link or below:

Metal Injection reported the story and interviewed Spiller about the track:

“Long-ass song about a cat. Crazy, right? I wanted to do a longer song and have parts that breathed naturally, that get inside you and that build. Too often in heavier music, I find that artists will have these incredible parts that crop up and vanish so fast that they never get a chance to go develop properly. I didn’t set out to make a super long song, but as I wrote, a longer song just felt right. When it came to finding inspiration for lyrics, my cat Parmesan was always sitting next to me or trying to play. He’s my number one guy and after singing songs to him for fun and being tired of heavy bands telling completely fictitious stories of acts of violence that they themselves would never commit, fake ‘scientific’ dissertations, tall tales, and the like, it felt right to tell his story instead. I was very, very sick when I brought this tiny blind, dying kitten into my home. His mother, who was a stray, led him into the middle of the street in front of my house then left him crying and unable to move. I could barely get out of bed, but I heard him and rushed out as fast as I could and that was the beginning of a broship for the ages. This is the tale of both of us fighting to get better, set to music that was fueled by listening to Symphony X, Steven Wilson, ISIS, and Ihsahn.”

In addition to Spiller (Too Late The Hero, The Binary Code), Caricature’s current lineup features Last Chance to Reason drummer Evan Sammons. ‘Stampede’ will be the second new track made available from the forthcoming new full-length Caricature album The Fiction We’ve Become later this year. The first track was the recently released ‘Eat shit And Die’, which you can see the video for at this link below. To celebrate the release of these tracks, you can buy it and the entire Caricature discography (Shadows (maxi single) release, The Sound Of One Man’s World Collapsing and The Birth By Sleep EP) at a 20% discount via Bandcamp.

Greg Fidelman Revealed As The Producer Of The New Metallica Album

Kirk Hammett of Metallica,, by Victoria Anderson

Kirk Hammett of Metallica, by Victoria Anderson

In an interview with Alternative Press, Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett revealed that Greg Fidelman is the de facto producer of the bands new album, which is said to be currently in the final phases of recording. Recently performing their first show of 2016 at CBS Radio’s The Night Before concert event at Super Bowl 50, both James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich claimed on stage that there would be a new Metallica album released during 2016.

Kirk commented on Fidelman’s level of involvement:

“We have not brought in any [other] producer and it looks extremely [unlikely] we’d bring one in this late into the project.”

“The title ‘producer’ itself is a bit ambiguous. It differs from person to person. You can call Rick Rubin a producer, but he’s not the [same] type of producer as Bob Rock, who is there for every note. At the same time, Rick Rubin gets stuff done. Greg Fidelman is a different type of producer in that he’s with the engineer always looking to try and move the project forward. And that’s different from, say, Dr. Dre, who is the type of producer who is actually making backing tracks, producing music, writing music. In the hip-hop world, Dre is a producer. It’s so ambiguous. If you go by the traditional term, we’re doing it with Greg, pretty much.”

“Greg is a real pleasure to work with. Even though he can be a bit of a taskmaster, he listens to you. He’s super-flexible. He knows how to crack the whip without fucking pissing people off.”

Hammett also commented on the difficulties of making an album for Metallica at this point in their career:

“The hardest part” about recording Metallica is coordinating the bandmembers’ schedules so that the production process can move forward at a comfortable pace. “Hey, for us, life has its demands,” he said. “We’re trying to make an album and go on tour, trying to be a band, but we all recognize that if someone has a family situation, that takes priority over everything. That’s another reason why [the new album] is taking so long. That’s another obstacle for Greg Fidelman He’s always joking about it, but it really takes a lot of, like, you know, tap dancing and juggling.”

The new Metallica album will be their 10th album of original music, not including live albums, compilations and covers. It will be the first new full length album from the band since 2009’s Death Magnetic. Fidelman may be seen by fans as a controversial, but safe choice for the band in the producer’s chair. Known for his work with Slipknot and Slayer, Fidelman came under fire from fans for the sound quality (clipping) associated with the Death Magnetic finished product.
