Lord Mantis Merges With Indian Members

lord mantis logo

Chicago’s Lord Mantis has issued a statement in regards to lineup restructuring with the addition of new members and parting ways with several as well. Founding members and drummer Bill Bumbardner and lead guitarist Andrew Markuszewski (Avichi, ex-Nachtmystium) have brought in former Indian members, Will Lindsay (Anatomy Of Habit, Abigail Williams, ex-Indian, ex-Nachtmystium, ex-Wolves In The Throne Room) on bass, Dylan O’Toole (ex-Indian) on vocals, and Scott Shellhamer (American Heritage, ex-Mares Of Thrace) on guitars. Additionally, the band will also collaborate with former Lord Mantis member Greg Gomer who will contribute to the band’s upcoming new recorded works.

Lord Mantis has gone through a purgatory this winter but now steps out into the light again. This is part of the reason why the last tour with TITD had to be cut short and our appearance at Roadburn 2015 was cancelled. Now we have a new lineup in place.

Dylan O’Toole (who has contributed lyrically and also performs vocals in the studio on songs for the past two records Death Mask and Pervertor) is no longer an unofficial 5th member of the band. He is now the vocalist. Will Lindsay (who also played guitar in Indian with Dylan and Bill Bumgardner) is now the bassist. Will also had a guest spot on Death Mask in the studio. To say there hasn’t been a major crossover between the Chicago bands Lord Mantis and Indian over the years would be a ridiculous statement. Indian and Lord Mantis shared the same rehearsal room together at Superior Street Studios in Chicago since the devil knows when. Scott Shellhamer, musician and artist of the band American Heritage, has also joined on guitars. The original founding member of Lord Mantis from 2005 Bill Bumgardner remains along with lead guitarist Andrew Markuszewski who has been in the band since 2008. Greg Gomer (also one of the two founding members along with Bill) hasn’t been in Lord Mantis since Pervertor which is the last record he was a part of. Greg has planned on contributing as a guest spot on the future recording currently in plan. Ken Sorceron and Charlie Fell are no longer members of Lord Mantis.

The ship has righted itself and in a very natural fashion. Even with the new lineup at this time, Lord Mantis will not be appearing at Roadburn and the subsequent tour in Europe.

An EP is being worked on already to be recorded this Spring. There are no shows being booked at this time until further notice. More news on the EP and further plans for 2015 by Lord Mantis is soon to come.

Finnish dark metallers Amorphis have been demoing new songs for their upcoming twelfth studio album, due out in September. “Like Kalevala, they are descriptions of natural phenomena, seasons and the human mind,” says Kainulainen. “Reoccuring situations where hope and uncertainty alternate. Attempting to gain advice from higher powers. The poems do not form a complete story per se, but they are drawn together by a certain theme. We live under a red cloud and once again, time weighs us.”

They are schedule to follow the album’s release with a world tour, which includes a European tour with Nightwish.

Drummer George Kollias recently gave an update on the band in a recent interview:

“[We’ll] release the album around June. And we have a European tour with Suffoca in September/October, and we’re talking about a U.S. tour, maybe, [starting in] mid-November.”

In regards to a possible album title:

“We’re not sure yet, so I can’t really tell. But if the one we have right now… I mean, we have a title, but, seriously, it’s not the final one. But if that’s the final one — I mean, if this is gonna be the title — it’s one of our songs which is the most difficult song I’ve ever played in my life. Like, seriously, it’s so hard to play. We were working on this song for three days. This has never happened with Nile — working on one song for three days. It’s never happened. It’s a song that, if you’re a drummer, and you wanna play it, or a guitar player as well, you’re gonna have troubles. [Laughs] It’s not that long. I think it’s around six minutes or something… But it’s crazy. Totally crazy.”

Philadelphia thrash-grindcore trio Die Choking has completed writing 13 new songs and will be entering Studio 4 in Conshohocken, PA in early April to begin recording their debut full length with producer Will Yip (Lauryn Hill, Circa Survive, Blacklisted, Cop Problem). Stream the video with band drummer Joshua Cohen (also of Cop Problem) here.

Stream the music video for “Tonsil” below.

Die Choking shoved their second EP of hyperactive, earthmoving grind/thrash down the world’s collective throat, with II. Comprised of members previously/currently hailing from other acts Total Fucking Destruction, Cop Problem, Burden and more, the band follows up their self-titled debut EP with another five tracks in less than six minutes, the material swarming with even more enraged and psychotic songwriting, and more of an ominous powerviolence approach, while stepping things up in the songwriting department and delivery on all levels. II was recorded and mixed at Mark It Zero Studios with Dan O’Hare (Brutal Truth) and mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, Baptists, Code Orange Kids) at Audiosiege. The 7″ is 300 copies on vibrant red vinyl, each copy joined by a document that function’s as a real, personal Living Will, in the theme of the closing track, “Tonsil.” Fans of Wormrot, Brutal Truth, Human Remains, Magrudergrind and Noisear don’t walk away without it.

Child Bite Recording New Record with Philip Anselmo

child bite

Detroit punk/metal/noise rock misfits Child Bite have been holed up in their den of iniquity penning new tunes for their as-yet-untitled new full-length, to be recorded by Philip H. Anselmo at his famed Nodferatu’s Lair. The record serves as the follow-up to last year’s Strange Waste EP, released via Housecore Records.

Comments Child Bite in a collective statement,

“Us ‘BITE boys have been holed up all winter, writing tons of stuff for the next record. We’ve been talking to Phil about recording with him for quite a while; we really just did Strange Waste last year as a way to keep busy while waiting for his busy schedule to clear up. We write in waves, with most songs requiring either four or five distinct passes before they are complete. Most of the songs are entering the third and fourth passes, with lyrics just getting started on. We sent Phil a bunch of really rough demos last week to share our progress and his response was; ‘insanely great ideas!’ Juice levels are reaching new heights in the CB camp.”

In related Child Bite intel, the band will appear on an upcoming, limited edition Celtic Frost tribute record. Set for release via Corpse Flower Records this Spring as a supplement to the Morbid Tales! An Illustrated Tribute To Celtic Frost, a mega 155-page comic with illustrations and illustrated anecdotes from a varied bunch of metal musicians/authors, edited by renowned illustrator Mark Rudolph, Child Bite opens the collection with their rendition of “The Usurper” with Anselmo on lead vocals. “If you saw us at our release show or on tour last Fall,” the band notes, “you may have heard us play it with [vocalist] Shawn [Knight] doing his best Anselmo-meets-Tom G impression.” The comp will also include Acid Witch, Municipal Waste, members of Neurosis and Repulsion and more!
