Foo Fighters Announce Indefinite Hiatus

Rumored since a cryptic tweet and other messages the last few days, Foo Fighters have revealed the band is entering an indefinite hiatus as of now. In an interview with Spin drummer Taylor Hawkins confirmed the news:

I think the world needs a break from us for a little while”

Rumors and speculation had followed the band for some time as front man Dave Grohl has been eyeing a solo career for some time. He often has many other side-projects in the works, both high profile and behind the scenes. Hawkins himself has several other bands he is a part of including Birds of Satan and Chevy Metal. The future plans of the other members of the group are at this time unknown. Foo Fighters were promoting their current release, the Saint Cecelia (Roswell.RCA) EP, recorded as a charity project to benefit victims of the Paris Terror attacks. Prior to that the band had released the award-winning Sonic Highways (Roswell/RCA) album in 2014.

Weekend Nachos Announce Breakup, New Album, Book Final Tours

Weekend Nachos 2015 with a Koala

In a post to their Facebook page, Chicago noise merchants Weekend Nachos have announced their breakup. They posted a farewell statement, revealed a final album entitled Apology due on Relapse, and announced a year of touring for the rest of 2016.

To anybody who gives a shit,

We would like to announce with both sadness and excitement that 2016 will be the final year as a band for Weekend Nachos. It’s been almost 12 years and we have decided to hang it up. This is not for any reason other than the fact that all good things must eventually come to an end, and we are rapidly approaching the end of our time. It’s been an insane and crazy ride for us to see where we were able to take this band. Everything was done completely on our terms and with the same DIY spirit that we had when Andy and I first jerked each other off in our Dekalb apartment in 2004. We will continue to apply that sacred mindset towards our future projects and endeavors…I hope all of you will do the same.

We would like to thank anybody and everybody who ever shared this experience with us. Your support will never be matched and it has been a lot of fun. We will be playing a series of shows over the course of 2016 and as always, if you have a chance to see us, don’t sleep! We never know when we’ll be back. If it ever makes sense to play another show after our demise in the years to come, maybe we will, but don’t count on it.

Our 5th and final album, “Apology“, will become available sometime this year via Relapse Records, Cosmic Note and Deep Six Records. Thanks again, everybody.

Snyder, Jimbo, Gozer, and Byron 1/1/2016

PS-Here is what we have planned for 2016. There may be a few more shows added, but not many. If we are playing near you please come and say goodbye.

Following the news of Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister of Motörhead passing, drummer Mikkey Dee has given an interview with Swedish newspaper Expressen, saying that “Motörhead is over, of course. Lemmy was Motörhead. But the band will live on in the memories of many.”

He continued to put a definitive end to the band, reflecting on the final months of their life as a band:

“We will not be doing any more tours or anything. And there will not be any more records. But the fire survives, and Lemmy lives on in the hearts of everyone.”

Speaking of their final tour of Europe:

“He was terribly gaunt,” “He spent all his energy on stage and afterwards he was very, very tired. It’s incredible that he could even play, that he could finish the Europe tour. It was only 20 days ago. Unbelievable.”

“It feels fantastic that we were able to complete the tour with [Lemmy], “It’s heartening that we didn’t cancel because of Lemmy.

“I’m incredibly grateful over the years we’ve had, and that we had such a good time together.”

The band had toured extensively this year, promoting the August release of their latest album Bad Magic (UDR).

Neil Peart Claims He Is Retired From Rush

In an interview with Drumhead Magazine Neil Peart of Rush has intimated that he is retired from music. He has released an anecdote that suggests he has accepted that he is retired.

Lately Olivia has been introducing me to new friends at school as ‘My dad — He’s a retired drummer.’ True to say — funny to hear. And it does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to… take yourself out of the game.”

This news comes on the heels of Geddy’s Lee’s recent admission that the touring future of Rush was in doubt since the members couldn’t agree about future bookings. Both Peart and guitarist Alex Lifeson have recurring health problems (tendonitis) that have put the future of the band, and the future career of one of the most iconic drummers ever in doubt.

Change.Org Petition Demands Action On Pantera Reunion

Change.org, the web’s leading site for activism based petitions, has seen the launch of petition demanding the return of Pantera. Pantera fan Kirsten Topperwein of San Antonio TX launched “The Pantera Project” on October 2nd and it already has 2,627 supporters in 6 days. The petition is calling for Pantera members Vinnie Paul Abbott and Philip H. Anselmo to reunite the band, along with bassist Rex Brown; and offering guitarist Zakk Wylde as a possible stand in for Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was murdered on stage on December 8th 2004.

zakk und phil

For the past 12 years one of the most influential heavy metal bands in history has remained silent. After that horrific night where the metal community lost one of its most beloved guitarists – iconic guitarist Darryl “Dimebag” Abbott, Pantera has been relegated to “legendary” and “history”.

Aside from Dimes brilliance on stage, he loved his fans – and he showed it every time he was on stage. His passion for his craft, and his fans truly made him a metal guitar legend.
As fans first and foremost – and out of complete respect and love, our heart went out to the band with all they endured, especially to Vinnie his brother for his great loss.

But we are asking for what all true Pantera fans only wished could happen: To see Pantera live on stage again. We KNOW that no one could truly replace Dime. But his ‘brother’ in Metal Zakk Wylde could step into those shoes and make the universe right again. Dimebag and Zakk were close, if anyone could do this and have the big guy’s blessing, it would be Zakk Wylde.
So in a shout out to all the metal heads across the world: please sign our petition asking the band “With all due respect” to please consider a tribute tour to pay homage to Dime for his incredible life and all he stood for. Let us see the mighty Pantera take the stage and rock the world one more time. At the end of the tour, decide where it goes from there. As die hard Pantera fans, this is what we are BEGGING for.

The Pantera Project greatly appreciates and thanks everyone for all your amazing support and efforts to truly honor an amazing person and musician who helped change heavy metal.
That is perfect!!!! Than

LETTER TO

Pantera Reunion/Tribute To Dime

This is the latest round of fan and media speculation that Pantera could someday reunite in the future. Wylde is often mentioned as possible member of such a reunion or tribute, volunteering himself to the great band and his fallen best friend. While all the surviving members of the band have performed Pantera songs live, and Anselmo and Brown have gone on record promoting at least a tribute of sorts, Dimebag’s brother Vinnie Paul has repeatedly squashed any kind of talk of a reunion. At the same time a less vocal group of Pantera fans and artists prefer the band never reunite at all.

This past summer Mayhem Festival and Warped Tour co-founder Kevin Lyman went on record claiming he had a desire to make a significant offer to entice a version of Pantera to form and become one of the headliners for the now defunct Mayhem Festival.

Conflicting Reports Cloud The Future of Cynic

Cynic_KBtFU_2014 album cover

It is a tale of two stories; differing factions of the prog metal band Cynic have alternately called either a potential end to the band, or perhaps not after all. Drummer Sean Reinert began with a post earlier today to the Cynic Facebook account declaring an end to the band:

It is with a heavy heart that I post today’s CYNIC news. CYNIC is no longer an active band. Due to artistic and personal differences, the second chapter in the ‘BOOK OF CYNIC’ has come to an end.

I will say the last shows we played in JAPAN have left me with a positive charge, even though they were the last live performances with Paul, Sean Malone & I on the same stage. My longstanding creative partnership with Paul, which started when we were very young kids in south Florida, has simply endured so much friction that there is no way, from my perspective, that CYNIC can be salvaged, repaired or kept afloat by any means.

I profusely apologize to the fans who were not only expecting us in China & Taiwan (that was not our fault), but to the fans who were planning to see us in Europe next month. These things happen, unfortunately, to bands. There can be differing levels of conflicts and/or differences in opinions, musical directions, or perspectives. Sometimes these things are insurmountable, and no amount of time or effort can resolve them. This is the case with CYNIC.

This page will stay up, and of course there are our respective personal pages and websites that will continue to let everyone know what we’re doing individually.

I wish all of you love & peace.

-Sean”

Paul Masvidal retorted later on with a post on his own page that Reinert has left the band in the lurch on the eve of a tour, and that the band is not done.

Dear fans and friends, this is all news to me. I just landed from Japan and my inbox was exploding. Sean didn’t confer with myself or Malone about Cynic’s official breakup or the tour being cancelled. I’m honestly somewhat relieved it’s finally over since it’s been quite challenging over the years but I’m also trying to figure out how to possibly salvage this tour (with a new drummer) since the damage he’s causing by pulling out at this last minute is inconceivable for me at the moment. Please share this message with friends or fans as Sean has taken me off our FB page so I can’t access it at the moment. Love to you all. I apologize for the drama…but sometimes life gets messy.

P.S. Cynic will continue one way or another. “

Reinert then replied in another post to Facebook, but then deleted the post:

Cynic is tentatively scheduled for a final European leg of a tour supporting the widely acclaimed 2014 release Kindly Bent To Free Us (Season Of Mist), which was the Ghost Cult Album of The Month in February of 2014, and the front cover of Ghost Cult Magazine #16.

Kvlt Ov Azazel Disbands, No Further Releases Planned

In a post to Facebook tonight, popular American black metal flag bearers, Kvlt ov Azael have announced their break up as a band, and the immediate cancellation of upcoming tour dates. The band was believed to be working on new material that was a follow-up to the bands last full length of original music, 2009’s Destroying the Sacred (Arctic Music Group). In their message to fans, the band cites a lack of passion and drive of some of the members as the cause.
