Taking Back Sunday – Live at Hollywood Palladium

This year marks the 20th anniversaries for a lot of bands. And it’s a special celebration for those in the melodramatic tales of the emo explosion of 1999 and early 2000s.  One of those bands is the always electrifying, Taking Back Sunday. In those 20 years, TBS has grown into an arena rock band of their own. With the neon panther in the background, TBS have killed it on this 20th-anniversary tour—especially at their stop at the legendary Hollywood Palladium for two sold-out shows last month. If anything in recent music history has taught us anything, the young and hungry artists of today have a lot to prove, want to earn every new fan they can, and leave everything on the stage night after night. When entertainment is everywhere, you have to go the extra mile in all your efforts just to make an impact. Northeast Dungeon Siege MMXIX – Live at The Raven

As the last weekend of March rolled around and people got ready to make piss-poor April Fool’s jokes, the Northeast Dungeon Siege MMXIX music and gaming fest happened at The Raven; a club located in one of the sketchiest parts of Worcester, MA. Centering around the headliner and arguably the artist most commonly associated with the term “Dungeon Synth,” Mortiis, the fest combined three nights of synth artists from around the globe, multiple merchants selling everything from board games to jewelry and fake dreadlocks, and two days of gaming. For those interested in synth music, metal, the occult, gaming, elves, goblins, hobbits, King Richards Faire, cosplay and excessive use of fog machines in small spaces, this is likely where they spent their weekend.Continue reading →


Cradle of Filth – Wednesday 13 – Raven Black: Live at Irving Plaza

On a chilly New York night, legions of fans gathered under the moonless
sky to witness the return of the British beasts of extermination, Cradle of Filth. They ascended to a sold-out Irving Plaza to witness the destruction during the Cryptoriana – The Second Coming Of Vice tour, which is a continuation of support for their 2017 album, Cryptoriana –The Seductiveness of Decay. Supporting the tour were Hollywood shock rockers, Wednesday 13 and LA’s own Dark Metal carnies, Raven Black. Together, they put on an unforgettable show.

In Flames – Norma Jean – Light the Torch: Live at O2 Ritz Manchester (UK)

For the past decade or so, melodeath heavyweights In Flames have divided the worldwide metal community. After beginning humbly as a melodic side-project to Jesper Strömblad’s traditional death metal band Ceremonial Oath, the Gothenburg group went on to release a string of innovative albums throughout the mid to late 90s that earned them unanimous acclaim for pioneering a much cleaner, more NWOBHM inspired style of death metal. Alongside the likes of bands such as Dark Tranquility and At the Gates, this fresh approach took the metal world by absolute storm. However, the turn of the decade has seen the Swedes popularity tower to heights not often reached without musical compromise, a notion that most bands of their genre would never dare to entertain. In the case of Anders Fridén and co, they boldly made the decision to incorporate friendly grooves and alternative metal riffs into a core sound that was always considered to be its best when abrasive, off-putting and relentless.

Children of Bodom – Swallow The Sun – Wolfheart: Live at The Masquerade, Atlanta GA

Deep in the Underground Atlanta, the city’s favorite entertainment district rests When you mention this venue’s name, most alternative artists will know exactly where you’re talking about. This iconic, massive building has three indoor venues that are cleverly called Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. The largest room, Heaven, opened its doors last Thursday for the mighty Children of Bodom. Finland’s Melodic Death Metal masters, CoB recently released their tenth studio album, Hexed. This run of North American shows is promoting this new record and the band brought some fantastic Finnish friends to play with them. Along with Swallow the Sun and Wolfheart, Hotlanta was in for a night of sweet, savage, Scandinavian Metal. Continue reading →
