There are always discussions of who is the biggest hardcore band out there today. While there are quite a few, stellar candidates, any conversation without mentioning Terror is simply just not valid. The California crew dropped their ninth album, Still Suffer (Flatspot Records), and is another ten tracks of aggression that chews you up and spits you up within a half hour.
“Promised Only Lies” is a quick and ferocious track that gets right to the point out of the gate with thrash-y riffs and drumming as Scott Vogel spits his truth as only he can. The groovy breakdown hits suddenly and is extremely effective as every time I have listened to it I have contemplated running through my wall.
“Beauty in the Losses” sticks out with a hip-hop intro, courtesy of Jay Peta (Mindforce, Crush Your Soul, Pillars of Ivory), who is also featured vocally across the track, as well. The track itself is an absolute ripper, keeping the pedal to the floor tempo-wise and not relying on a breakdown to make it memorable.
“Deconstruct It” closes out Still Suffer with a bang musically and lyrically speaking. To further add to the aggression, Brody King (God’s Hate) and Dan Seely (King Nine) hammer home the vocals before the penultimate breakdown. Added bonus, a ton of renowned names are featured in a “hidden track” in voicemails where they left positive words and love for Scott.
I could easily go through a track-by-track breakdown of Still Suffer as every song goes hard. Terror continues to put out top-tier hardcore for the people with no signs of slowing down either. Whether this record is your introduction to Terror or not, this album is a must from an already stellar discography.
