There is a rich tradition of Doom musicians releasing stripped-back acoustic affairs as the likes of Scott Weinrich, Tony Reed, and Mike Scheidt can attest to. Windhand‘s Dorthia Cottrell is no exception and Death Folk Country (Relapse Records) marks her second solo effort to date following a self-titled debut in 2015.

ALBUM REVIEW: Marissa Nadler, Amenra, Cave In – Songs of Townes Van Zandt Vol. III


 

I’ve been a fan of Townes Van Zandt for some time now after a chance hearing some years ago of ‘Pancho & Lefty’ on a movie or film I’ve long since forgotten the name of. This combined with a love of all things Yob eventually led me to Mike Scheidt’s contribution to Vol. II of this wonderful series of tributes released in 2014 also on Neurot Recordings and My Proud Mountain: needless to say, I was hooked. Eight years on, I wasn’t expecting a Vol. III but I’m very glad that it has arrived.

Amigo The Devil Releases Townes Van Zandt Cover – “Waiting Around To Die”


Amigo the Devil has spent the pandemic like would any other time, making music that opens up dark corners in our souls. He is releasing ongoing music in a “living album” Covers, Demos, Live Versions, B-sides, an ever-evolving playlist of new songs with new tracks coming all the time. The new project also marks the first official release through his new label Liars Club Records, a partnership between Amigo The Devil and indie powerhouse Regime Music Group. Amigo The Devil is currently working with powerhouse Beau Bedford at Modern Electric in Dallas, TX recording a follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut album Everything Is Fine, which was produced by Ross Robinson.
