INTERVIEW: Four Stroke Baron Talk “Data Diamond”

Four Stroke Baron defy convention and boldly go where few bands have gone before with the smirking and cinematic future shock brilliance of Data Diamond. The falsetto and manipulated vocals on “1000 Threads” paired with heavy sci-fi Nu groove makes you feel adrift in space. It is a swan dive into embracing the chaos, mutating and adapting while trying to find yourself. Certain moments feel like the dark guitars of Korn, Once Human, or Gojira suddenly morphed into Massive Attack.

ALBUM REVIEW: 3TEETH – EndEx

Most of the world is oblivious to the fact nuclear war is closer to reality now than it was during the Cold War. Thus the increasing need for music that taps into the subconscious to remind us of the grim future looming. 3TEETH’s fourth album “EndEx” (Century Media) has all the End Times anxiety you want.  The Los Angeles-based band remains consistent in their sonic vision. They work off of industrial strength grooves to pump the lifeblood of their sound to these songs.

Electro Rock legends Placebo have released a cover of the iconic 1980s Tears For Fears single, “Shout,” taken from the band’s album Songs From The Big Chair. Weezer Surprise Releases Covers Record – “The Teal Album”

On the back of the international hit covers of Toto songs ‘Africa’ and ‘Rosanna’, Weezer has released a full covers album of 1980s megahits, pop rock earworms, 1990s RnB track, and one classic metal song! They announced the release on social media. In addition to ‘Africa’, some of the more memorable tracks include A-Ha’s ‘Take On Me,’ Tears for Fears’ ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World,’ The Eurythmics’ ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)’, Black Sabbath’s ‘Paranoid’, Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’ and TLC’s No Scrubs’. The new chapter in The Transformers Movie series, Bumblebee is out now. Starring actress and pop singer Hailee Steinfeld, the music in the film has a decidedly 1980s sound with songs from Bon Jovi, Sammy Hagar, The Smiths, Tears For Fears, Duran Duran, Rick Astley, Howard Jones and more heard in the film. Hoobastank – Push Pull

Who can forget Hoobastank’s 2003’s Grammy nominated hit ‘The Reason?’ The band, which hails from Agoura, Calif.—the neighboring suburb of Los Angeles that brought you Incubus and Linkin Park—hasn’t had the same success since the release of their second album by the same name. They have released three studio albums since, toured with Velvet Revolver, opened for Creed’s reunion tour in 2009 and found themselves back on the Billboard 200 chart with 2012’s Fight or Flight (Open E). PVRIS – All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell

What became of real pop stars? This is a question I have asked myself over and over the last few years. As we’ve lost Prince, George Michael, and David Bowie, and there is no new Madonna, Bjork, Sinead, Tori, or nary even an Alanis in sight, I wondered when the next generation of legends would come, if ever. A few years back I got turned on to PVRIS when I still lived in their home state of Massachusetts, and I heard White Noise right when it came out. Then I saw them live, and whoa, I was blown away by them. However, one of the hardest things to pull off in music is the second album. Sure you have your entire first act to create a sound and cultivate your style. People are fickle and expect a lot as fans. Much tougher to grow from that and keep it going, but PVRIS has pulled it off impressively. Continue reading →
