Having stayed with Black Sabbath until 1983’s unfairly criticised Born Again (Vertigo) album, founding member Geezer Butler returned to the band in the early nineties but with a growing desire to prove himself as a solo artist. After leaving again in ’94, the iconic bass player and moustache enthusiast teamed up with former frontman Ozzy Osbourne for a while before eventually going it alone to form G/Z/R.
Sad news as Jack Sherman, who played on the Red Hot Chili Peppers debut album, has died. He was 64 years old. According to a published report from SPIN Magazine, no cause of death has been revealed. The band confirmed the news in a post on their Instagram account.
More sad news as we move into the second month of the year. Legendary post-Punk and Brit Rock guitarist and producer Andy Gil has died after a short respiratory illness in London. He was just 64 years old. As a founding member of Gang of Four, Andy left an indelible mark on music with his style and songcraft. Gang of Four’s first few albums are seminal works in post-Punk and New Wave music and they continued to inspire and affect bands long after they were inactive in the scene. A ground-breaking composer and producer, he worked with artists including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Stranglers, the Futureheads, Michael Hutchence, Bono, Therapy? and the Young Knives. In 2020 Metallica has announced they will take part in the Global Citizen’s 10-hour “Live Aid”-style concert event happening on September 26, 2020 on five continents: Central Park in New York, Lagos in Nigeria, and to-be-announced cities in Latin America, Europe, and Asia.
