ALBUM REVIEW: Nest – Endeavors
Nest is helmed by multi-instrumentalist John Jarvis of Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Scour. Given his connection to Phil Anselmo through Scour, it only makes sense for this project to be on Housecore Records. Endeavors marks the third full-length album of the project. They opened select dates for Pantera’s recent tour; they are at least heavy enough to warrant having a slot on that run. Continue reading
CONCERT REVIEW: CAVALERA – Incite – Recall the Remains Live at KK’s Steel Mill
Another cold night in wintry Wolverhampton beckons but KK’s Steel Mill is always a welcome sight. A former factory building owned by former Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing, the venue, opened in 2018, has already gained a great reputation, landing many top quality metal acts ahead of other local rivals.
Philip Anselmo of Pantera Tells The Metallica Podcast “I Know For a Damn Fact Vinnie Paul And Dimebag Would Want Us To Do This”
Philip H. Anselmo and Rex Brown were guests of the latest edition of the Metallica podcast. The M72 tour, with the reformed Pantera as an opener, has been enormously successful, with many sold-out shows. Philip has gone on record for the first time since the tour was announced one year ago. Among Philip’s comments to the show were “I Know For a Damn Fact Vinnie Paul And Dimebag Would Want Us To Do This” sure to draw the ire of some of the fanbase, divided over whether the band should continue. Listen to the podcast below and see our recent Pantera coverage here, here, and here!Continue reading
CLASSIC ALBUMS REVISITED: Thirty Years of “Vulgar Display of Power” By Pantera
By 1992, Metal was all but on its knees. Traditional bands had become dinosaurs and previously popular scenes were burnt out. There were exceptions, of course. Slayer were playing arenas, Metallica had global domination in their sights, death metal was approaching its peak and across northern Europe, black metal was literally rising from the ashes of burned churches. But for the rest of the world, grunge and other alternative scenes were the new kings, all drawing inspiration from the bands they were replacing but without any of that old fashioned baggage.Continue reading

LIVESTREAM REVIEW: Scour – Shock Narcotic
Last Friday (1/29/21) I got to check out the live stream from Housecore bands Scour and Shock Narcotic. Both of these groups are “supergroups” but I’m not going to get into that right now. I will say though that the list of bands that make up the background for each band are some of my favorites so I was kinda excited for this show.

STREAMING CONCERT REVIEW: Down’s Quarter Century Throwdown
To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of their now-iconic debut album NOLA (Elektra Records), the band Down originally planned a tour at select venues worldwide before a global pandemic shut down the normal cadence of life as any of us ever knew it for the foreseeable future. Not to be silenced on such a momentous occasion, the guys took to the stage at a private location instead to stream The Quarter Century Throwdown as a global virtual concert. Featuring vocalist Phil Anselmo, guitarists Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower and Pat Bruders on bass, the event aired live with two encore performances in the days following the livestream for ticket holders.
