I had the opportunity to see Testament with opening acts Overkill and Destruction in Portland, Oregon on March 14, 2026 for the kickoff of the North American tour! Opening up the show was Germany’s Destruction, who are touring the US behind their 2025 release Birth of Malice. The one constant member of the band since its formation in 1982 is Marcel Schirmer, aka Schmier, who is the lead singer and bassist. They actually came out ten minutes before 7:00 and performed an excellent 40-minute set. The crowd definitely had a lot of Destruction fans in it, and everybody seemed pleased with their performance. They sounded good from where I was situated, and the lighting was sufficient. As the first band on stage, they brought the energy of a headliner. Continue reading →
