Deftones’ Around The Fur Turns 20 Years Old



Get in your way-back machine and set the dials for 1997. People back then had big 1990s optimism and even bigger pants (JNCOs). James Cameron’s Titanic was dominating the box office, and sadly two iconic women, Mother Teresa and Princess Diana died. Scotland cloned a sheep named Dolly, and the first of the Harry Potter novels was published. And a band from Sacramento, CA put out their second album. Of course, we mean Deftones and Around The Fur (Maverick). Not just any sophomore effort, the album would be a stylistic left turn for the band that was on the forefront of Nu Metal just a few years earlier. Audio: Blood Drugs – Diamonds

Seattle’s Blood Drugs is streaming “Diamonds”, off of their self titled album out now via Good To Die Records below. The record was produced by Matt Bayles (Sandrider, Russian Circles, KEN Mode, Minus The Bear) and mastered by Ed Brooks at RFI.

The band have scheduled an upcoming live in-studio performance on KEXP‘s Audioasis Saturday April 11th at 6:30pm, and will be celebrating the release of their debut album April 24th at the newly re-opened and remodeled Chop Suey in Seattle.

The brand new split LP featuring unreleased tracks from Seattle bands Sandrider and Kinski hit stores on February 17th via Good To Die Records. The Sandrider side was engineered by Matt Bayles (Russian Circles, KEN Mode, Mastodon) at Red Room Studio in Seattle and features two originals that capture both Sandrider’s melodic and crushing sides as well as a beefed up cover of Jane’s Addiction’s “Mountain Song”. The Kinski side was engineered by Phil Manley (Les Savy Fav, Rye Coalition, Oneida) at El Studio in San Francisco and features 14 minutes of new music stretched between two new tripped out rockers from the Seattle stalwarts.
