Welsh rock legend and guitarist Paul Chapman, perhaps best known for his work in UFO and Waysted, has died at the age of 66. His passing was confirmed by his son, who wrote on Paul’s Facebook page: “It is with a heavy heart writing this, today is my dads 66th birthday. He passed away earlier this afternoon. He was a brilliant, energetic, loving and most carefree person and the First man I ever loved. Everyone he came in contact with loved him. no ADORED him. will keep everyone posted on his celebration of life. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers as his family grieves and processes everything at this time. I love you Dad. So much.” In Paul’s early career, his first notable band was the Welsh outfit UNIVERSE. Chapman then joined SKID ROW (not to be confused with the 1980s band from New Jersey) in December 1971 replacing Gary Moore as a guitarist. His tenure was fairly short and only lasted until July 1972. His next band was KIMLA TAZ, with whom he was guitarist from December 1972 to May 1974. In recent years, Chapman had been teaching music at his studio in Melbourne, Florida. We send our condolences out to Paul’s family, friends and many fans at this time. Continue reading

Slipknot Postpones All of Their Tour Dates Until 2021
In a new interview with Eddie Trunk on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation’, Corey Taylor of Slipknot has revealed that the band has moved all of their 2020 tour dates to 2021, due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. As transcribed by Blabbermouth.net “This whole year was booked, and some stuff that hadn’t necessarily been announced…,” he said during an appearance on yesterday’s (Wednesday, June 3) episode of “We had two shed tours [booked] — we hadn’t even announced the second leg of it, which was gonna be later in the fall. So right now, we’ve basically moved everything until next year. Everything is just basically being picked up and moved — same time next year. Because to us, we’re not canceling — we’re just postponing. Once everything settles down and everybody is able to catch their breath and everything, and everybody feels good, and hopefully, there’s been some progress made as far as a vaccine or whatnot, once the tentative fear goes away, everyone’s gonna be barking to go to shows. And that’s when we’re gonna be ready to go again. So, yeah, we just basically moved everything to next year.” Last month, Slipknot canceled all of its previously announced summer 2020 tour dates, including the Knotfest Roadshow, Knotfest UK and Knotfest At Sea, due to the coronavirus crisis.Continue reading
CLASSIC ALBUMS REVISITED: Black Label Society – “Stronger Than Death” Turns 20
Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society came out of the gate strong on Sonic Brew (Spitfire Records), even though it was a little under the radar for the high-profile Ozzy Osbourne band leader. While Sonic Brew, officially released in 1999 in the US, set the template for the BLS style, coming in about a year later refined what Zakk was aiming for. With better production, a bit heavier right hand, and a little more focus, the songs on Stronger Than Death (Spitfire) shine through. Continue reading

FESTIVAL REVIEW: ROCKLAHOMA 2019
Rocklahoma 2019. Three days in the sun, dust, and more sun over Memorial Day weekend (four days technically if you count the Thursday night pre-party). This was the 12 year of this annual festival and it was set to be one for the books from the get-go. Getting to this massive party was no small task on my part. Driving from New Hampshire to Oklahoma isn’t exactly a relaxing Sunday drive. Two full days of driving, two full-on tornadoes, and 1,700 miles later, I had arrived at my Air BnB in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
