ALBUM REVIEW: Helmet – Left


 

Helmet are a legacy band, who at over 30 years into their career– albeit with an early 2000’s hiatus– are still very much thought of as a specific, early mid-nineties era band when alternative rock was king. And for good reason, as they are a band who certainly had a huge influence with early Interscope Records such as Meantime (1992) and Betty (1994), providing a sludgy down-tuned version of the more commercial alternative styles of the time.

Page Hamilton of Helmet to Give Lessons Online For the First Time Ever


Page Hamilton, the legendary leader and frontman of Helmet has decided with the pandemic going on to offer online guitar lessons for the first time in his career. He made the announcement to his mailing list, and via the teaser video on his YouTube channel below. Due to touring, recording, and other rigors of band life, he felt he never had the time, but now seems to be the right time. Page also revealed a documentary about the band is in the works, but won’t be completed until after potential tour dates in 2021. Helmet has toured the world in the last few years, notably performing the music for the 25th anniversary of their classic album Meantime (Interscope) in 2017, and Betty (Interscope) which turned 25 in 2019.  Watch the teaser trailer, read the statement from Page, and book a lesson today!Continue reading


Helmet and Russian Circles Now Added to the Faith No More, Korn, System of A Down Mystery Package


 

The plot thickens in the mystery of the Faith No More, Korn, System of A Down social media teasers with an astronaut on a spacewalk. Now both Helmet and Russian Circles, each leaders in their sub-genres have also posted the image with a one-word caption, “Monday”.  Helmet can be said to be a major influence of the three headliners. Helmet will go down as one of the greatest and most influential bands ever. This fact is undisputed. Coming out of new York City at a time when a generation of bands bred on New York Hardcore values married to the talent of thrash bands (with some general avant-garde weirdness for good measure), Helmet stood out like a sore thumb of weirdness.
