EP REVIEW: SNAYX – Better Days

UK Punk has had a bit of a resurgence in the past few years, with acts like Bob Vylan and Kid Kapichi bringing the likes of grime into the sound. The result has been massive for the scene on an even larger scale with Idles having sold out numerous dates instantly.

It is a good time to be a proud fan of the UK Punk scene.

SNAYX are a key example of one of the grittier bands out there in the scene, capturing the heart of what makes the genre great, whilst at the same time taking in a range of outside sources into their own sound.

Not even a year after their chaotic last EP, Weaponized Youth, the trio are back already with their next music installment, Better Days. Inspired by the crowds at the live circuit, SNAYX are clearly here to make music to go crazy for.

The title track perfectly encapsulates the mood; the band set out to accomplish straight from the beginning. Grungy toned guitars accompanied with a lo-fi synthesizer bounce around, complementing each other’s sound perfectly.

Elements of Softplay and even Feeder come into play when the vocals kick in, quite a basic chorus repeated as the rest of the band jam together in harmony. It’s not often that a bare bones song comes together just as SNAYX have done on “Better Days”. It’s clearly one that will capture the crowds on festivals to come, straight from the get-go.

The highlight of the EP, however, is the final track “Concrete”. Featuring this fast-paced vocal run reminiscent of acts like The Streets, Enter Shikari & even Blur. Unbelievably good almost-rapping flow, but unmistakably English tone throughout bring the band down to Earth.

These fast vocals are immediately matched instrumentally, one of those songs you can tell from the moment the band begins that it’s going to cause carnage on the live circuit. The chorus has one of those hooks that lodges straight into your head.

For a four-track EP, SNAYX are able to convey so much in terms of what they want to be doing moving forward and the types of sounds that they want to interpolate into their own unique take on the Indie Rock/Punk genre.

There is no doubt that this band is one everyone should be looking out for as they will be rising through the ranks on festival bills sooner rather than later, thanks to their style, and ear for producing some of the catchiest Punk Rock tracks in the UK.
