International punk/metal supergroup Tau Cross will be releasing their debut record in late Spring via Relapse Records.
Comprised of a pedigree of musicians including Amebix vocalist/bassist Rob “The Baron” Miller, Voivod drummer Michel “Away” Langevin, Misery guitarist Jon Misery and War//Plague guitarist Andy Lefton, Tau Cross formed in 2013 and recorded their debut album over several months in 2014 throughout three different countries.
Rob Miller commented on the project saying,
“We decided to let the songs form themselves around the original demos and allow people to bring themselves into the mix, to allow the bark to grow around the tree. We are all very proud of what we have achieved in this short time and looking forward to working together again as soon as time allows.”
“TAU CROSS will be playing live over the coming year, we hope to Tour in the U.S and Europe, it is still early days but i feel this is going to be an intense live experience.”

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren (Suffocation, Fallujah, All Shall Perish et al.) at SharkBite/Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland, California, the self-titled opus features a guest appearance from Daniel Casares from Bay Area jazz group “Atta Kid” on saxophone and boasts eleven tracks of transcendental death metal.
Elaborates the band,
“We get a lot of inspiration from the experience of just being in a band. All the conflicts and resolutions throughout the years have all molded the way we approach our songs. We’ve always been the type of musicians that take the next step to further our skill but collectively and as an entity we strive to convey the jaded sense of growing older into our music. Like Revelation, there is a melodic and lyrical progression that all leads up to cathartic resolution. It takes you on a journey of emotional high points ranging from the good, bad and unforgivable.”

The influences and flavors of the past shine brightly within the particular elixir that is the ONE TON PROJECT sound with each further sampling by the listener. Tuneful gemstones pried loose from the gilded throne of King Crimson are ground up and blended with a bit of Frank Zappa’s mad genius and a healthy serving of the eternal groove handed down to the present day by the titans of soul and R&B, all of which sets and gels comfortably under a healthy coating of modern rock varnish. Between three guitarists, three vocalists, a bassist, and a drummer, along with the colorful tones of unconventional instruments thrown in to the mix, the end result is the sound of a band making the music they love and taking their time to do so, without the pressure of being involved in the stream of trends and temporary satisfaction. Rather, the band has scratched out a stake on the shores of that ungovernable island of artistry where strange trips and weird dreams are brought to life through song. Self-produced over the course of several years in the instrument crowded warren of the band’s own studio, the uniquely unorthodox recording possesses a variety of sound so mercurial, it is impossible to nail ONE TON PROJECT down with the constrictive restraints of any one genre. Traditional rock structures and soulful vocal patterns flow into the pulsing rhythms of reggae, jazz breaks fuse with the sharp timbre of Eastern scales, and catchy hooks create sparks as they clash with progressive post-rock soundscapes and bluesy phrases.
