ALBUM REVIEW: Face Yourself – Martyr

If you are into breakdowns, ultra-low guitar tunings, breakneck timing shifts, and killer filler in the background, then take a look at the new release from Face Yourself on Sumerian Records. This new cut takes the Deathcore model, and pushes to it to new boundaries before continuing to push everything even more.

The guitars are super tight even though they seem to be down in the C range, that in and of itself is craziness, but it jams and jams hard. The drums also have a nice touch to them going from blistering doubles and blasts to solid grooves and punching when it is needed, then backing off of it with killer precision. The delivery of the vocals brings its own brutality as well, showing a broad range but still keeping balance between guttural lows and venomous highs that play off each other very well.

What stands out the most on this EP are the production values. Yes, there sounds like there has been a lot of stuff added outside of the jam room, but it is done very well. Nothing feels like it is just tacked on bullshit, it all adds to the final picture.
