Tool Releases New Merch Line For “10,000 Days” Anniversary

Tool marked the 15th anniversary of the release of their 10,000 Days (Volcano, Tool Dissectional) album on May 2nd, 2021 with a new line of special themed merch. Among the typical shirts, hoodies, and hats, there are pillows, pint glasses, a sherpa blanket, and the Vicarious single/video DVD for sale at their store. 2021 is a special year for Tool album milestones as Lateralus (read our review here) just turned 20 years old, and Ænima will see a 25th anniversary this fall. The band was supposed to be on the road touring being Fear Inoculum, but has been largely inactive since the lockdown as vocalist Maynard James Kennan contracted COVID-19 twice and released a new album with Puscifer, while Adam Jones put out an instrumental single and video with the help of fellow bandmates Danny Carey and Justin Chancellor.

LIVESTREAM REVIEW: Puscifer – “Money Shot Live”

During the very strange time that is the Covid quarantine era, livestreams have become quite popular over the last year. Having seen a few of them, they are well produced and are meant to feel as if one is at the show, albeit with no one else around, and have been quite popular. Having said that, the latest Puscifer livestream entitled Billy D and the Hall of Feathered Serpents featuring Money Shot is on a whole different level! Starting off with Billy D (portrayed by Maynard James Keenan) ending up in an underground luchador bar with “bartesians” serving up experiences in a glass, each drink served up is named after a track from the Money Shot album.

Puscifer to Perform Their “Money $hot” Album in Full for Their Upcoming Livestream

Puscifer, by Meg Loyal Photography

Puscifer, led by Maynard James Keenan of Tool and  A Perfect Circle, has announced their next livestream event, following their incredible “Existential Reckoning” Live At the Arcosanti” (review here) stream. “Billy D and The Hall of Feathered Serpents featuring Money $hot by Puscifer” debuts on Keenan’s April 17 birthday, and reprises the Luchador-infused performances surrounding the band’s 2016 album, Money $hot (which will be played in its entirety). The production is once again presented as a collaboration with Danny Wimmer Presents (Sonic Temple, Louder Than Life, Aftershock Sacramento, Welcome To Rockville) will take place at The Mayan Theater,  Los Angeles’ historic 1920s era revivalist theater featuring original artwork by Mexican painter and sculptor Francisco Cornejo, serves as the backdrop to the one-time outing. The elaborate cultural landmark, with its jaw-dropping Mayan calendar infused chandelier and a lobby dedicated to the bird-meets-reptilian deity Quetzalcoatl, gave birth to the performance’s title. “While looking both forward and backwards, we stumbled into The Hall of Feathered Serpents,” explains Mat Mitchell. “The perfect site to pay homage to the Money $hot album and tour.” Watch the trailer now.

Hellfest 2021 Is Canceled

The organizers of Hellfest have been officially canceled after the French government culture ministry said summer events would be allowed to go ahead — but with a limit of 5,000 people, all of whom must remain seated, to meet COVID-19 restrictions. This is a bad sign for the upcoming European festival circuit this year as other countries are likely to follow the same protocols. The Union of Contemporary Music (SMA), which represents festivals, concert venues and producers, said late Thursday that the figure had been agreed at a meeting with culture minister Roselyne Bachelot. Hellfest, which drew 180,000 people in 2019, generally features a lineup which is 90 percent made up of international acts and 20 percent of spectators coming from abroad. Hellfest 2021 was to have featured Deftones, Faith No More, System of A Down, Judas Priest, Puscifer, Korn, Volbeat, Opeth, Dropkick Murphys, Northlane, Deep Purple, Wardruna, Rival Sons, Devin Townsend, Suicidal Tendencies, and more.

ALBUM REVIEW: Deftones – White Pony – Black Stallion

Deftones had a banner year in 2020, dropping their impeccable Ohms (Reprise Records, review here) and celebrating the 20th anniversary of arguably their best album, White Pony. Unbeknownst to fans, and music journos, there is an entire secret history of White Pony the band revealed this year. For years we had been hearing that the band was interested in a remix album, either of an entire past release or perhaps a new album. It turns out, the band always intended White Pony to have a companion album or EP of remixes, called Black Stallion. Among the fanbase, this potential release lived in the lore of their minds, as much or more than the Eros sessions we may, or may not ever see the light of day (and we understand why guys). Now the band has capped off their year with the fleshed out and realized Black Stallion release (also Reprise).
