According to a report by Blabbermouth.net, SoCal Hardcore supergroup Dead Cross, which is comprised of Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Misfits), Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Mondo Cane, Tomahawk), Justin Pearson (The Locust, Retox) and Michael Crain (Retox, Festival Of Dead Deer), has entered the studio to begin recording its second album, due tentatively in 2020. Once again producing the group is Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit), who previously worked on Dead Cross’s 2017 self-titled debut LP. The band broke the news of the latest recording sessions in a tweet on Wednesday (December 4). The band wrote: “We are happy to announce that tracking for Dead Cross LP #2 has now begun.”Continue reading
Faith No More stirred hearts and loins of their adoring fans yesterday when they changed most of the social media profiles with a new image of their iconic logo over a mountain top. No official word had has come down, but speculation has been rampant by fans that perhaps the band will return to activity. Live performances seem possible as the band left their most recent reunion on good terms, with the masterful Sol Invictus (Ipecac Recordings) album and sold out reunion tour dates for three years. FNM’s landmark second album The Real Thing, the first release featuring Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross, Mondo Cane, Peeping Tom, Tomahawk) turned thirty years old in 2019, so perhaps the band will honor that milestone. Ghost Cult reported the news last year that several core members of the band had teamed up for a writing session, to see if they had material for a new release. Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane project performed the first of two shows last night in Italy, backed by a 40 piece orchestra. The group covered much of the Mondo Cane repertoire of Italian Pop love songs and a surprise cover of Mr. Bungle’s “Retrovertigo’ as an encore, from Mr. Bungle’s California album. The initial surprises reunion tour dates booked by Mr. Bungle have grown now that the pre-sakes indicated overwhelming demand. They have added an additional night to each of their previously announced The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny performances in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. The dates, which feature the Eureka-born band performing their 1986 demo in its entirety, mark both the first time Mr. Bungle has performed in close to 20 years and the first time these songs have been played live in over 30 years. The band also recently marked the anniversary of their final studio album, California (Ipecac Recordings). You can read Ghost Cult’s retrospective here. Original Mr. Bungle members Trevor Dunn, Mike Patton, and Trey Spruance will be joined by Scott Ian (Anthrax, S.O.D.) and Dave Lombardo (Dead Cross, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies) for what promises to be an unforgettable night. On this day twenty years ago the final studio album from the wild and weirdly cool, insanely talented Mr. Bungle, California (Warner Bros), was released. At the time it seemed like the band best known as the side project of Mike Patton had long legs as if they would go on to make many more albums afterward. Sadly, it was not meant to be. Still, California holds up today as a strong album and a forebearer of further musical projects all of the members would undertake in the future. Continue reading
Faith No More’s smash hit album The Real Thing (Slash/Reprise) turns thirsty years old today and it still holds up not only as the album that catapulted the weirdo art-punks cum alternative metal band into the mainstream, the majority of it still holds up as a classic. All of the bands’ earlier formative material on the We Care A lot EP and the Introduce Yourself album definitely had threads passed down to its cute, feisty little brother of an album, but in many ways, much of the creative energy and reckless abandon of future releases surely was foretold here. Back in 1994 Greg Werckman, former Alternative Tentacles’ boss and Mike Patton’s manager, along with Patton (Faith No More, Tomahawk, Mr. Bungle) formed Ipecac Records, and soon after released IPC-1, Fantômas’ self-titled release. Basically by making a label from for Patton projects like Fantomas and Mr. Bungle as well as Maldoror, a release featuring Japanese noise heavyweight Masami Akita (Merzbow) and Patton and more. On April 1, 1999, Ipecac Recordings was officially born, headquartered out of Werckman’s San Francisco home office. Initially, the plan was to make this a home for Patton’s non-Faith No More/Mr. Bungle releases, but a year’s long friendship with the Melvins quickly changed that.Continue reading
