Arguably the most divisive album in the history of metal, no other record seems to split opinion quite likeMetallica’s The Black Album (Elektra). Otherwise known simply as Metallica, whenever the San Franciscan act’s fifth studio album is mentioned even in passing, the results are usually the same. Like a red rag to a bull, loud and vociferous “true fans” are still guaranteed to leap straight in with comments like “only the first four albums are real”, “sell-outs” and “commercial bullshit” etc.

Watch Metallica Play a New Version of “Disposable Heroes” from Their Helping Hands Charity Concert


Metallica played their “Helping Hands” charity auction concert “Live & Acoustic From HQ: Helping Hands Concert & Auction”, which was streamed live earlier today (Saturday, November 14) from the band’s headquarters in San Rafael, California. In addition to Metallica originals and covers (Deep Purple, Bob Seeger, and Animals), the band played both acoustic and electric sets of music. During the electric set, the band played a reimagined version of “Disposable Heroes” — described by James Hetfield as “a heavy song we did acoustic, and we’re doing it heavy the acoustic-version way’ and “Wasting My Hate” from Load, performed for the first time since 2011, according to setlist.fm.Continue reading

It is produced by Alan Maher and John Wallace for Cowtown Pictures and Peter Worsley for Eagle Rock Films. The film includes will include interviews with Thin Lizzy‘s Eric Bell, Scott Gorham, Darren Wharton, U2’s Adam Clayton, Suzi Quatro, Huey Lewis, Metallica’s James Hetfield and Ultravox’s Midge Ure. Metallica Resumes Rehearsals Together During Quarentine


Metallica has shared a  video to its Instagram stories showing the four members of the band playing together at their headquarters in San Rafael, California. James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo can be seen playing the intro to “Creeping Death”, with everyone except Hetfield wearing face masks. It is not presently clear if Metallica is rehearsing for a specific event or if it is preparing to take part in a recording session. In early May, the four members of Metallica overcame social distancing to record a new version of their song “Blackened”, with each member separated in his own home. The split-screen video was posted to the band’s social media channels.

Former Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted Shares Home Video from Quarantine


Jason Newstead, former member of Metallica, has shared a home video with fans while self-quarantining with his wife, Nicole.due to the coronavirus in his home in Jupiter, Florida. To date, Newsted has been part of the Jupiter community for nearly 20 years. He captioned the clip: “Just having some fun during Social Distancing”.Newstead who has had other projects post-Metallica such as Echobrain and his solo Metal band Newstead as well as a member of Ozzy Osbourne’s touring band and Voivod. More recently he has done some charity shows with The Chophouse band of which he is the frontman. He also famously quit all social media in 2014, and didn’t comment on it publicly until 2017. Jason was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, along with Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo, in 2009.Continue reading


Metallica’s James Hetfield Makes His First Public Appearance Since the “S and M 2” Concerts


Metallica frontman James Hetfield made his first major public appearance since the bands’ two S & M 2 concerts in San Francisco in September. Hetfield entered rehab a short time after the shows and there has been little news about the band since, other than their festival plans for 2020. The Metal music legend made an appearance last night (Thursday, January 30), when an exhibit featuring ten of his classic custom cars opened with a ticketed reception at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Hetfield took part in a chat and helped auction two of his ESP guitars at the event. He said he was proud to have his work on display at the museum. “There’s no other place like this,” James said. “The Petersen is the pinnacle. It’s the best place to have your vehicles. They weren’t doing me much good sitting in my garage. I loved looking at them. The best part is they’re all together. I didn’t want to auction them off and [have them] go all over the world.
