EP REVIEW: Tribulation – Hamartia

Descending consecutive steps of the shadowy nooks and crannies of the psyche, like Werner Herzog revealing more abject layers of vampiric horror, Sweden’s Tribulation have never been a one-trick (bat) pony. They are the rare band with sophisticated songwriting smarts, an ominous and seductive allure, and the self-awareness to not tip their hand too far into unintentional macabre cheese camp while still straddling the gulf between Hammer homage, the deep subconscious mind, rock n’ roll, and death.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO PREMIERE: New Way Vendetta – “Love In Quarantine”

Modern post-Punk/New Wave disciples New Way Vendetta (Electric Frankenstein, Christian Death) have dropped a hypnotic video for their killer new track, the gloriously creepy “Love In Quarantine’ which we are debuting here at Ghost Cult! The track is from their new single release Love: Light (“Love In Quarantine” b/w “Light As A Feather (Stiff As A Board)”) out via Mosquito Hawk Records. This is the second virtual 7″ single from the upcoming Rites Of The Black Mask full-length coming in 2021. For fans of Gothic dance-punk, “Love in Quarantine” scratches all the familiar itches of the dusky club days of the early 1980s. The slinky track is heavy with anxiety building riffs and vocals and reveals a slick multi-faceted approach to writing. Which shows influences, but next copies them. The video, especially the old medical footage will unsettle you in places, which is a nice mix with the upbeat, but not a happy song. The track is available for purchase on Bandcamp, Spotify, and iTunes today, so watch the clip now and support this rising actContinue reading

Lice – Woe Betide You

Brazilian avant-garde Black Metal act Lice probably thinks its name evokes horror, decay, and disease. For me, it mainly brings back memories of my childhood, as I had bottle after bottle of insecticide poured over my head because my leprous sibling had picked up yet another infestation from his dirtbag mates, and we all had to be deloused again. But I digress.Continue reading
