ALBUM REVIEW: New Years Day – Half Black Heart

New Year’s Day helped pave the path for today’s female-fronted nu-metal bands who balance hard rock aggression with pop hooks. Having emerged from the days of Myspace, they have refined the weighty grooves of that era to transcend the bandwagon of their peers. This is largely due to frontwoman Ash Costello. On Half Black Heart (Century Media Records) Costello’s voice finds more piercing power. She knows how to pack a punch without resorting to screaming. This helps their songs avoid the modern rock formula that is wearing thin.  Continue reading

New Years Day – Unbreakable

If Wes Craven was a genre of music, it would be New Years Day. For the most part, Ash Costello and gang have depended on a recipe of heartbreak mixed in with edgy guitars and a punk rock attitude. new years day

New Year’s Day will be releasing a brand new full length album later in 2015 via Another Century Records. Stream the music videos for “Defame Me” here and “Angel Eyes” (featuring Chris from Motionless In White) here.

New Year’s Day is a band that encourages their fans to embrace something that is very hard to do in a forward-thinking digital trend era; to be themselves. The Anaheim, CA band was put on the map in 2013 with their last full-length record Victim to Villain, but It is safe to say they have been through hell and back. From near-death touring experiences to bad record label situations, all of their blood sweat and tears have built a band beyond buzz-worthy and ready to show off their best songs to date. The band consists of captivating vocalist Ash Costello, bassist Tyler Burgess, guitarist Nikki Misery and drummer Nick Rossi.

The group will spend all summer on the Vans Warped Tour across North America in support of their their 5-song EP Epidemic, which was released through Grey Area Records last fall.
