Quicksand return with their most purposeful album in years, tracking Bring On the Psychics in a ten-day session with producer and mixer Jon Markson, known for his work with Drug Church and Drain. The album title draws from a Carl Sagan quote, and the music serves as a sonic bridge between the band’s heavy Nineties post-hardcore roots and the experimental textures of later records, Interiors and Distant Populations.

Lead single “Get To It” hits with urgent, high-energy conviction, a track about cutting through procrastination and taking action, paired with a video directed by Jesse Korman and edited by Jimmy Lazer. The second single, “Regenerate,” explores personal growth and the pursuit of new paths after adversity.

This announcement also coincides with a pair of Quicksand events worth noting. This Sunday, April 26, the band hosts a Manic Compression 30th Anniversary Talk and Signing at Rough Trade Below in New York City, featuring a live panel with Walter Schreifels and Richie Birkenhead of Into Another. Iodine Recordings also released a 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Manic Compression earlier this year, remastered by Jack Shirley from the original tapes and accompanied by a limited 64-page hardcover book featuring tributes from members of Knocked Loose, Coheed and Cambria, Drug Church, Glassjaw, At the Drive-In, Touché Amoré, and many more.

Vocalist and guitarist Walter Schreifels drew on his roots in the New York hardcore scene with Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today when writing the record. “For this album, I was going back to a lot of my earlier influences about ‘break down the walls’ or ‘start today,'” he says. “Regardless of whether you’re into hardcore or youth crew, they’re really cool records because they’re speaking to the time and providing possible paths to a better future… with mosh parts.”

Bring On the Psychics arrives July 17 on digital and vinyl, including limited editions such as the Pink Splatter variant.
