Long Island crossover outfit Extinction A.D. is back with a second consecutive strike, releasing a new single and video, “Thaw,” across all streaming and download platforms. Following their recent signing announcement and debut track, the band is wasting no time making their presence felt. Watch it now!
“Thaw” arrives as an unapologetic anti-authoritarian statement, with frontman Rick Jimenez squarely targeting the abuse of federal power and the encroachment of regressive ideology into underground scenes. “It’s very easy to assume writing an anti-authoritarian song is passé in heavy music in 2026,” Jimenez explains, “but as a band that exists in both the metal world and the hardcore world, it’s surprisingly polarizing.” He frames the track as a direct condemnation of ICE and the normalization of fascist ideals dressed up as political loyalty, calling out what he describes as both “defenders of the status quo” and “regressive back-to-the-past thinking infiltrating our scenes.”
The accompanying video was built with community at its center. “It’s not just our song, it’s everyone’s song,” Jimenez adds.
The track follows the band’s previously released single, “Dead Men Running,” which you can revisit here
