EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: OvertheTop – “The Beating” Lyric Video

New York City’s synth-based/grindcore innovators OvertheTop have been steadily dropping new singles and videos for the last year, and their current album Resist released last spring. Today they have shared a new single and lyric video for the track “The Beating”! For the uninitiated, OvertheTop mashes up the awesome sounds of the 1980s dance and post-Punk, cinematic soundtracks, and classic grindcore, unapologetically and unironically so. The band is made up of members of stalwart NYC bands Alekhine’s GunDesolate, and Severed, and is a must-listen. Watch the clip for “The Beating” here!

The band comments:

The Beating is a nod to some of our favorite influences– from the heaviest metal like Napalm Death, Carcass, and Pig Destroyer through some of our 80’s synth favorites like John Carpenter, Depeche Mode and New Order. And when writing the lyrics for this track, we found ourselves drawn to and inspired by the dark poetry of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic, The Tell-Tale Heart. We tried to emulate the narrator’s guilt and nervousness, while still maintaining some semblance of lyrical ambiguity. We hope you enjoy this track as much as we loved writing it. Stay tuned for new music on the horizon from us over at the OTT camp.

Lyrics :
I ponder from time to time
Own my own x2
Am I mad by design?
Nameless here I remain
I will be no longer

I’m not crazy, but I’m not bound
The fear, the guilt, the nervousness about…
Time slows the stops
My nerves rule me
No more debating
The body decaying
All my senses betraying

The past is immutable X2
Unbearable noise
What could it be? The beating…
…why won’t it die?
