CONCERT REVIEW: Iron Maiden – Lord of The Lost – Airborne Live at Olympic Stadium

Iron Maiden fans all over the world are literally no different as they fly all over the world to see these guys perform. Athens, Greece even with their 30-degree (Celsius or 90 plus in Fahrenheit) temperatures, native Grecians are not fazed by the weather, came well hydrated, excited, and ready to consume beer, and some Maiden tunes.

Doors were open at 3 pm local time and the super fans came then to stand under that hot sun to ensure their front row center spots. Unlike how things are stateside, water and snacks are allowed and somewhat encouraged in, but water and food at the venues in Greece are considerably inexpensive anyway.

What makes Greek crowds inherently unique is their enthusiasm at shows, whether it’s  for music or sports, and of course their famous protesting skills. They come with well built flags and well designed posters, but even more visibly noticeable are the flares that are somewhat “randomly” ignited within the crowds and noticed by Iron Maiden’s singer Bruce Dickinson himself.

The majority of Greeks  know English as the country is a popular tourist destination, so it was very visible how well the fans were able to sing along to the classics that were performed, most notably “Fear of the Dark,” “Number of the Beast ”, and “Run to the Hills”.

The age range of the crowd was also beautifully varied as veteran fans brought their young children, there were couples of all ages, and Maiden shirts that can date back well into the 80s.  The photographers themselves were also very varied in age and came from all over Greece, several from the next major city of Thessaloniki, who came in just for the show.

As for the full show itself, after the high energy performances of Lord of the Lost and Airbourne who are both are worth checking out, Iron Maiden played a short video which got the side lined crowds who were casually waiting to push closer to the center.

All in all no expenses were spared for the show, as is known to be in true Iron Maiden style, and the Greek community left happy as fireworks were displayed upon their departure.
