CONCERT REVIEW: Covet – ScaryPoolParty – Alto Palo Live at The Crescent Ballroom

Covet’s latest American tour in support of their latest album Catharsis, started in April in Portland, OR, and recently came to a successful close this May in Santa Cruz, CA. I was able to experience Covet for the first time along with supporting acts ScaryPoolParty and Alto Palo in Phoenix, AZ, during which I was excited and curious to see how each of these bands would blend together.

I was pleasantly surprised, as each act brought an incredible performance that connected each concertgoer with a deep experience brought on by Covet’s Yvette Young’s impressive guitar work, Alto Palo’s soulful and groovy rhythms and smooth vocals, and ScaryPoolParty’s (Alejandro Aranda, 2nd Season of American Idol favorite) emotionally powerful lyrics and unique acoustic guitar melodies. Even though these bands blended together so well for this tour, I still had a unique and contrasting experience as Covet displayed a technical wizardry of complex instrumentals that were very high energy after ScaryPoolParty had dimmed the lighting, engaged the audience on a mind-blowing acoustic set that almost left us all in a trance after grooving to Alto Palo’s smooth R&B and synthesized vocals.

I definitely had a range of emotions, to say the least, making this an unforgettable time that I will continue to share with others looking for an engaging and diverse musical experience.
