CONCERT REVIEW: Arch Enemy – Behemoth – Napalm Death – Unto Others Live at Terminal 5

This night featured an eclectic group of Metal bands. Sure, they’re similar in an overall way. But each band’s brand of metal keeps your ears from getting tired. These are the best kind of tours, where sonic diversity conquers all.

Unto Others is like a doomy version of The Cure. Super dark and super moody, with a singer who physically reminds me of Roy Orbison,  and not the hologram version. This band  just has that kind of “goth, not goth” vibe to me.

Napalm Death was just as awesome, as always. It’s a fun game of Where’s Barney? Barney Greenway should be the spokesman for all musicians to do cardio and go Vegan. In less than an hour, they blasted through over seventeen songs from ten different albums. Addressing social issues from racism to women’s rights, you just have to love this band!

Seeing Behemoth perform is the musical equivalent of a Baptist Church sermon. The way they command the crowd and their stage show and overall vibe will have you screaming “Hall Satan” at the end of the show. A big bonus for me was getting to hear their new song “Ov My Herculean Exile” from their next album, Opvs Contra Natvram, which I’m very excited for.

Arch Enemy just feels like every song is an anthem. I feel like I could wave a flag before almost any song they play. Not only do they have a hell of a light show, they know how to keep the crowd engaged too. It’s a guitar solo fest for with Jeff Loomis and Michael Amott sure, but bassist Sharlee D’Angelo and drummer Daniel Erlandsson keep it together with a beautifully tight musical rhythm bomb. Alissa White-Gluz ties it all together with her voice and performance.

If I can get more tours built like this with all the different styles of metal I enjoy, I’ll be a happy fan all year long!
