Antrisch, whose name comes from an Austro-Bavarian word meaning eerie or uncanny, combines atmospheric and melodic black metal with elements of doom, djent, and dark ambient, weaving dense narrative themes into their music. Formed in 2020, the band released their debut EP, Expedition I: Dissonanzgrat (2021), inspired by historical mountaineering drama, while their debut full-length, Expedition II: Die Passage (2023), told the complete story of Sir John Franklin’s disastrous Arctic expedition.
Expedition III: Renitenzpfad delves deeper into the dark side of human history, following the footsteps of the infamous conquistador Lope de Aguirre and tracing his role in Pedro de Ursúa’s 1560 Amazon expedition. Across seven tracks, Antrisch explores a descent into madness, violence, and excess in a hostile wilderness, blending aggressive black metal riffs, atmospheric ambient passages, and narrative interludes into a powerful, gripping experience.
