Sometimes you just need a good thrashy, Crossover Punk band to get your blood pumping. Toxic Youth have been dishing out what you crave now for thirty-five years with no signs of slowing down. Their latest album, Still Hungry (Time To Kill Records), continues that mission statement relentlessly for over thirty minutes.

“All My Life” has it all that Toxic Youth can offer: the old punk feel, Thrash, and hardcore. The riffs, the shouty gang vocals/sing-a-longs, and a well-placed breakdown ahead of the outro refrain. The message of mental health through the lyrics adds even more feeling behind the instrumentals.

“Da Crew (Dirty Hands Broken Backs)” sheds love on the working class with a bit more of a metal feel to the verses and plenty of gang vocals. Then, out of absolutely nowhere, an ass-beater of a breakdown just makes time stop. Time resumes again when the main riff comes back.

“War Games” starts us off with a bass break to get any room of any size going side to side. The song is quite the workout, with all of the two-stepping and gang vocals of the song title, which will surely have you running out of breath. But don’t worry, there is a breakdown that will give you a little break from screaming war games every few seconds.

Whether you are getting amped up for a show, working out, or just want to get your emotions out with any of the heavy topics Toxic Youth covers, Still Hungry is a great choice. While fifteen tracks are a bit more for me when listening to punk/hardcore, I was never bored or distracted. Just press play and see for yourself.
