ALBUM REVIEW: Moon Destroys – She Walks By Moonlight

Moon Destroys is debuting their self-produced full-length album, She Walks By Moonlight (Limited Fanfare Records). The band is the brainchild of guitarist Juan Montoya (ex-Torche, MonstrO) and drummer Evan Diprima (Gold Pyramid, ex-Royal Thunder). Having released their 2020 EP, Maiden Voyage, they’ve spent the past few years refining their sound—crafting a powerhouse blend of heavy rock and psychedelia. This album will resonate with fans of bands like Elder, Kyuss, Earthless, and Fu Manchu.

She Walks By Moonlight delivers nine immersive tracks, each with its own sonic identity. One standout is “The Nearness of June”, undeniably the heaviest song on the album, yet, still deeply hypnotic. “Only” follows with a gritty, distorted bassline and psychedelic guitar effects that pull the listener into its hazy groove. Other notable tracks include “A Song for Jade” and “Metallic Memories”, both of which showcase the band’s ability to weave melody and intensity seamlessly. The album flows effortlessly, making for an engaging and dynamic listen from start to finish.

The music evokes a mind-bending, otherworldly experience, pulling the listener into a rhythmic, melodic trance. There’s a vast cosmic atmosphere throughout, creating an expansive, almost cinematic soundscape. Then, without warning, it gets heavy—thick, distorted bass and pounding drums crash in, immersing you in waves of fuzzy reverb and crushing riffs. The vocals emerge like a haunting hymn, echoing from the depths of some transcendent portal, adding an ethereal yet commanding presence to the mix.

With She Walks By Moonlight, Moon Destroys proves they’re not just refining their sound—they’re pushing boundaries, crafting a record that’s as meditative as it is crushingly heavy. I am looking forward to this band’s future.
