ALBUM REVIEW: KAL-EL – Astral Voyager Vol. 1

Norwegian Cosmic Groove masters KAL-EL are at it again with their newest cut Astral Voyager Vol. 1. Established fans of the band will be happy to see they are still kicking out killer jams delivered with that killer KAL-EL sound and tone that is all their own and keeps people coming back for more. New fans will be treated to a sonic journey that takes them from one end of the universe to the other.

Their dirty signature tone keeps everything rocking regardless of whether the jam is slow and melodic or they decide to step on the gas a little; that bluesy stoner rock KAL-EL tone is ever present, moving from groove-based cuts to super hooky riffage, giving the listeners a very well-rounded stoner rock experience.

Even though there are only six tracks, the album feels and plays a lot bigger if that makes any sense. You can slip the headphones on and you are on your way, sailing through the cosmos, visiting as of yet undiscovered planets and seeing worlds beyond the reach of man. Last but certainly not least are the vocals. The haunting delivery is so suited for this band and that aforementioned sound and tone that it takes everything to the next level.

If the Silver Surfer started a band, that band would be KAL-EL in spades. If you are a stoner rock fan or even if you are not, check this out. This album will satisfy many different musical palates.
