ALBUM REVIEW: Feed The Beast – Mercy

Fresh onto the Hardcore/Metalcore scene in 2021 were Feed The Beast, with their debut single with “Flowtick.” Since then, the band have been grinding hard releasing a slew of singles, EPs, and an album already. Now, with their second full-length album in tow, Mercy (Futureless Records). The band are once again here to show what they’ve got to offer the world of metal and hardcore.

The album kicks off with a frenzy of panic chords and thunderous drums in “My Own Delusions”. The rougher-sounding production goes a long way in displaying the rawness of the band’s sound and instrumentation from the very beginning. As soon as the guitar enters the piece, you’re transported to the small basement shows going wild for the music. This track will cause plenty of pits from the moment the band start playing.

The highlight of the release comes from the track, “God’s Whispers.” Utilising a combination of the heavier hardcore side of this heavier chugging riff and screaming vocals to then the other side of the metalcore spectrum with more intricate riffs and clean vocals. The two styles overlap each other and mix very efficiently. The clean vocals sound especially impressive, reminiscent of big-hitters in Killswitch Engage

For the final song, “No Boundaries,”, there is no slow interlude track to play off to, no calming element of an orchestra wrapping up the album. Feed The Beast do not let up in their furious mayhem from start to finish. With one of the more catchy riffs of the album, the band are set on giving their audience something to remember them by on the final song. The riff is bouncy, melodic, but what’s more, outright raw & heavy. If there is not a single pit or circle pit to this song, something is clearly wrong with the world.

For a band that had only started in the past few years, there is, without a shred of doubt, potential behind Feed The Beast. Not only for their talent musically, but with their ability to mix inspirations from the hardcore and metalcore scene to create something new, raw and something that will get audiences moving. This is a band people need to follow as they’re onto something here.
