ALBUM REVIEW: Crobot – Feel This

Throwback Thursday can now be every day if you believe hard enough. With Crobot’s latest release Feel This (Mascot Label Group), you can headbang and air guitar like it was the 1990s, early aught’s all over again.

Clean vocals, wicked guitars, and heavy drumming are the signature pieces to Feel This. It’s like one woke up with Jersey High-Hair, a generous amount of Aqua Net, and stone-washed jeans cinched at the waist. Brandon Yeagley on vocals, Chris Bishop on guitar, Tim Peugh on bass, and Dan Ryan on drums have composed a strait forward, booty swaying, wicked rock album. Be warned, you cannot listen to this without singing.

Loudly.

Stand out tracks include my fave, ‘Dizzy’. “…take me far away, we keep on spinnin’ ‘til we don’t feel dizzy. I’ve been laid to waste. We keep on spinnin’ ‘til we don’t feel dizzy…” Yeah, it’s instantly singable. ‘Dizzy’ oozes sultriness.

‘Golden’ is such an earthy well-grounded song. Yeagley has such pathos in his voice and it’s accentuated by some amazing guitar work by Bishop. The lyrics are the best, “…they can do what they want with your flesh and your bones but your soul they cannot take…” The listener feels this song deep in their heart. ‘Dance With the Dead’ is like an old-fashioned hair metal song, but with way more substance. The song writing on Feel This is just great; the songs are fresh, lively, and just plain fun to listen to.

Crobot takes their fans on a well-crafted journey through a kick arse musical landscape. The throw-back feel conjures up singing out loud (often off key), head banging, and dancing to music you hear in your head (think Walkmans).  The songs seep into your consciousness and you find yourself humming them throughout the day. I like that you can sing along to the songs as they’re quite infectious. The guitar is fun, did I mention the fun?  But yes, Chris Bishop is awesome and my air guitar thanks him.

Feel This is uplifting and positive, sadly good metal album, and a pure joy to listen to.
