Every once in a while, everyone just needs a dose of some Death Metal to get through a day. Antropomorphia once again returns with a devastating, Earth-shaking release entitled Sermon ov Wrath (Metal Blade)Clocking in at just shy of the forty minute mark across nine heart-pounding tracks, this album is sure to give you a good smack or two right in the head. While each track follows a similar formula, for the most part, I still find myself not tiring of the album.
‘Murmur ov the Dead’ really sticks out as it is the first track to move away from the machine gun riffs. This song brings forward atmosphere and also supplies some of my favorite drum fills on the album. ‘Crown ov the Dead’ follows in suit as well with an epic intro of extended guitar chord progression and drum fills that could wake even the most tired of giants. This is also the longest track on Sermon ov Wrath at just over seven and a half minutes. The best, and dare I say most adventurous, track on the album is ‘Sinful Rapture’. This song will get you moving regardless if you are seeing it live, in your car, or in your town’s library. The guitar riffs alone stick out on this song between the mosh-worthy passages and when they suddenly shift to a spacy, almost psychedelic sections. The album picks up from that point through the last four tracks.
Sermon ov Wrath takes absolutely no prisoners, and certainly stands out over several other Death Metal releases from the year thus far. While the beginning of the album doesn’t grasp from out of the gate, it certainly gains traction and becomes a solid release. Antropomorphia is, without a doubt, a new artist to me that I will be keeping on my radar moving forward.
