Cryptopsy has won their first JUNO Award (the Canadian version of the Grammy’s) in the “Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year” category! The band won for their album As Gomorrah Burns, out now via Nuclear Blast Records (read our review here)! Cryptopsy won defeating past winners Voivod and KEN Mode, as well as Danko Jones, and Kataklysm. The 2024 Juno Awards kicked off on Saturday evening (March 23) at the Opening Night Awards in Halifax, Nova Scotia. To be considered for a nomination at the 2024 Juno Awards, national music release dates had to fall between the eligibility period of September 1, 2022 and November 2, 2023.

Annihilator, Ktaklysym, Vile Creature, Unleash The Archers, and Protest The Hero have been nominated in the best metal album of the Year category for the 2021 Juno Awards. The Juno Awards are the annual award show celebrating excellence across all musical genres and often called The Canadian Grammy Awards.” Last year’s winner for The Metal AOTY was Striker for their album Play To Win (Record Breaking Records/Independent). In the Rock AOTY category Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Silverstein, JJ Wilde, Crown Lands, and Sam Roberts are fighting it out in that category. The 50th Annual Junos will take place on May 16th, 2021.

Powermetal loving Canadian band Striker has won The 2020 JUNO Award for Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year for their album Play To Win (Record Breaking Records/Independent). The Awards show was streamed live on TV and online. The 2020 JUNO Awards will Livestream Their 2020 Ceremony Tonight!
The 2020 JUNO Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) live ceremony was postponed this spring due to the coronavirus. Tonight the awards show will announce all of their winners, including the award for Metal/Hard Music Album Of The Year. The nominees are Lindsay Schoolcraft (ex Cradle of Filth) for Martyr (Cyber Proxy), Kobra And The Lotus – Evolution (Napalm/The Orchard), Single Mothers Dine Alone – Through A Wall (The Orchard), and Striker – Play To Win (Record Breaking Records/Independent). The JUNO Awards are set to be hosted by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Alessia Cara will host the show, which will be broadcast live on CBC. Ronny Gutierrez Dismissed from Kobra and The Lotus
There seems to be some trouble in the Kobra and the Lotus camp. It seems guitarist Ronny Gutierrez was fired from the band last week after a blow-up inside the band between him and frontwoman Kobra Paige. The issue stemmed from posts Ronny made about the band being nominated for the 2020 JUNO Awards (the Canadian version of The Grammys). No official announcement has been made yet by the band, but judging from Ronny’s social media posts about this (which you can see below), this relationship not getting repaired and he is moving on. This is a bummer as we are big fans of this up and coming band. KOTL are nominated for their album Evolution out now on Napalm Records and are up against artists such as Striker, Single Mothers Dine Alone, and Lindsay Schoolcraft (Cradle of Filth).
