What started as a simple acoustic strum evolved into a transcendent sonic trip. “This song started as an acoustic strum thing,” says vocalist/guitarist Kenny Hickey. “I only had the main vocal hook and chords when I brought it to the guys. It grew from there. The lyrical imagery tries to capture the outer-body feeling I get while meditating, particularly the feeling of falling through the earth.”

The track’s accompanying video mirrors that heady, immersive vibe with a kaleidoscopic visual experience. Psychedelic and meditative, the clip was made all the more personal by the fact that Hickey’s own daughter, Aliya, filmed his scenes —capturing the performance through a uniquely intimate lens.

Sun Dont Shine isn’t just another hard rock band. Formed by four giants of the genre—Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative, Silvertomb), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down), Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Silvertomb), and Todd Strange (Crowbar, Down)—the band builds on a legacy of heavy music while refusing to be boxed in by it. Their sound fuses the crushing riffs of Sabbath-era doom with atmospheric, melodic flourishes and emotionally honest songwriting that burns slow and hits hard.

“I don’t want our music to be one-dimensional,” adds Hickey. “I want it to be both light and dark, dynamic and unpredictable.”

That duality runs deep in “Coming Down,” where meditative introspection gives way to thunderous crescendos. It’s a statement piece from a band built on contrast, chemistry, and a relentless desire to carve out something real in an increasingly synthetic musical landscape.

“As a huge fan of Type O Negative, I was really excited to be asked to be involved with this,” says Windstein. “We have a totally unique sound while putting all our influences together… I feel like it’s something new for this day and age to hear.”

Whether you’ve followed these players for decades or are just discovering them now, “Coming Down” is a stunning invitation into their evolving world—one that’s equal parts brutal, beautiful, and unforgettable.
