Born in the gray skies and wet grounds of the Pacific Northwest, Old Moon blends blackened melodic metal with orchestral arrangements and heart-wrenching lyricism that speaks to the darkest corners of human experience. Depression, grief, loss of self, and death form the lyrical backbone of the band’s sound, set against guitar melodies that weave together elements of melodic death and post-black metal.
The title track “Home to Nowhere” is the most emotionally direct of the three singles released so far, offering a contrast to the hostile directness of debut single “Obsidian” and the darker, doomier “A Rest to My Name.” All three tracks come from the debut full-length, which arrives May 8 on CD, limited-edition smoke-colored vinyl (limited to 300 copies), and digitally.
Old Moon was founded by Michael Priest, known for Gone in April, Idolatrous, and ex-Boudica. The band self-released a three-song EP in 2024 that caught the attention of M-Theory Audio label founder Marco Barbieri, who kept tabs as the group built a full lineup, played live shows, and eventually recorded the debut album that secured their signing to the label.
