Exclusive: Pallbearer Says Don’t Call Us A Doom Band

Pallbearer’s epic new record Heartless drops this Friday, March 24th via Nuclear Blast in Europe and Profound Lore in the USA. In this exclusive video interview clip for Ghost Cult, watch Joe Rowland (Bass, Vocals, Synth) discuss why Pallbearer shouldn’t be defined as a “Doom” band.

Ghost Cult asked Joe a further question:

Q: Following the success of Foundations of Burden, did the band feel any pressure to top that album in terms of the expectations of the band?

A: Personally I think we are our own biggest critics, and much of any sense of pressure or heightened expectations come from within the band. Our approach after Foundations is the same philosophy we’ve always had: we simply try to make strong points stronger, as well as to continue to recognise and improve areas where we might sense a weakness. We are perpetually pushing ourselves as a band and as individual players to widen our palette and add new layers and directions instead of sticking with a linear idea of what Pallbearer can become. While there are certainly people out there that are detractors of us for one reason or another, it’s just something to take in stride. We are doing something we truly love and will always try to make our best work yet, no matter what it might be.

Heartless was recorded entirely to analogue tape at Fellowship Hall Sound, Little Rock, Arkansas between June and August 2016. The record was produced by Pallbearer, and mixed by acclaimed producer Joe Barresi (Tool, The Melvins, QOTSA, Fu Manchu). Engineering was handled by Jason Weinheimer and Zach Reeves, and mastered by Grammy-winning mastering engineer Dave Collins (Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Soundgarden, Metallica).

The album artwork was created by hugely talented Indiana-based oil painter Michael Lierly, and the album layout was handled by Chimere Noire.
