EP REVIEW: Panzerchrist – All Witches Shall Burn

Signed under Emanzipation Productions, the Aarhus-based Danish extreme metal warlords Panzerchrist –who have been around for about thirty years– are back on releasing a new four-track EP, All Witches Shall Burn, which was recorded in the same session of their 2023 album Last of a Kind. The recording process was done in Antfarm Studios with a production process involving Tue Madsen who has previously worked with many big names in the extreme metal scene such as Behemoth, At The Gates, and Aborted.

Now with the release of All Witches Shall Burn, Panzerchrist are once again ready to reclaim the throne of the Scandinavian death/black metal sphere in such triumph– especially with the comeback of guitarist Frederik O’Carroll and the arrival of new vocalist Sonja Rosenlund Ahl (of Arsenic Addict fame).

Feature track “Sabbath of the Rat” is an intensely menacing track with such immeasurable depth– staying true to their blackened death metal roots and presenting Dark Funeral-like thrashings and distortions. On the other side, the more doom-inclined track “Stone for the Graveless” is a slow burning affair where a slight industrial atmosphere is also involved.

“Satan is Among Us” is more of a heavily fast-paced belligerent track which starts with a horror-like intro; presenting continuous sonic walls of malice. Last track “She’s a Witch” features the dramatic use of church organs and haunting chants, accompanied by an enigmatic aura of pure horror. All in all, my personal favorite got to be “Sabbath of the Rat”; to me it appears to be a malicious blend of Sargeist and Dark Funeral, but with more death metal inclinations.

When it comes to the lyrical themes on this EP, Panzerchrist features narrations that are heavy on witchcraft and esoteric-related elements; which are some of their songs’ recurring themes. Overall, I think that this is a strong new EP to welcome the beginning of the year as it contains varied heavy elements under various spheres such as doom, industrial, and of course their blackened death metal roots.
