The Juno Award-winning Canadian brutal technical death metal legends Cryptopsy have released the video for “Malicious Needs,” the second single from their ninth album, An Insatiable Violence, out now via Season of Mist. Warning: contains graphic content. Watch it now.

An Insatiable Violence was born from a dream that came to vocalist Matt McGachy, an allegory for humanity’s toxic relationship with social media, something McGachy has experienced firsthand through his Vox and Hops podcast. In the dream, a person spends all day building a machine, only for it to torture them through the night. The twist: they enjoy it. Come morning, they wake up rejuvenated, eager to refine the machine further. It is a deeply unsettling concept rendered in Cryptopsy’s most uncompromising form.

The video for ” Malicious Needs” was directed by Gornoss, who also handled visual effects and editing, with gore makeup FX by Laurent Smiejczak of TASM Dead Realistik FX. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by guitarist Christian Donaldson at his own studio.

Cryptopsy continues to make history beyond the music itself. In December 2023, they became the first metal band ever to perform in Saudi Arabia, playing in Riyadh. An Insatiable Violence has since earned the band their second 2026 Juno Award nomination for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year, a category they previously won in 2024 for their eighth album As Gomorrah Burns. This year the award went to Despised Icon for Shadow Work.
