This world is full of gifts if you know where to look for them, and a night with YOB and Windhand is definitely a gift. A sold out weeknight show in Brooklyn’s industrial ravaged Red Hook neighborhood, on a beautiful October evening, where the music was thick and heavy with riffs. Pioneer Works is definitely one of the city’s more unique venues with its stained glass, high ceilings and exposed beams. It’s great seeing Windhand as a five piece again, they were able to give the crowd the sonic bludgeoning we deserved. It’s never an easy task to open for YOB but Windhand nailed it.

The mighty YOB notched twenty-five years on their belt with the year 2025 quickly passing us by, and a rumor of possible new music on the horizon once the dust settles from this limited run of dates as they enter the recording studio to write some new music. I’m only writing this to try and will it into existence, because I always need and hope for more YOB. It was a ridiculously and wonderfully loud 90 minutes of music. We can joke about “oh so like five songs” all we want but it always feels vast, encompassing, healing, and pure. I speak of what YOB’s music means to me, they are a band that I have seen at least thirty times over their twenty-five years of existence and hope to see thirty more. YOB is love!
