CONCERT REVIEW: Machine Head – Fleshgod Apocalypse Live at Floyd Music Club, Athens

After being forced to cancel the previous year, Machine Head finally makes not only a triumphant return after a ten-year absence, but to a sold-out show at Floyd Music Club hosted by Honeycomb Live and Made of Stone Productions. Opening the show and a perfect match of an opener was Fleshgod Apocalypse.

The crowd was already sweaty, as it was peak summer in Athens, and started chanting “Machine-Head” as the band took the stage. And throughout the set, the band let out little easter eggs that showed their enthusiasm for being back in Greece, as singer/guitarist Robb Flynn kept screaming the infamous Greek “OPA” continuously riling up the crowd as the night went on.

Also included in the set was an epic solo by bassist Jared MacEachern, who is known for his epic stage presence.

The crowd had their own (or were given) inflatable hammers which were constantly airborne, and at the end of the set, massive inflatable Machine Head labeled Square Balls were flying throughout the crowd alongside some of the crowd surfers.
The set list is available below.

The Italian Symphonic Death metal band Fleshgod Apocalypse provided a spectacular opening set with a strong and beautiful display of Operatic Singer Veronica Bordacchini holding the Italian Flag as they opened the set with “Ode to Art (de’ Sepolcri).” Their whole set was colorful, with their lighting, stage settings, and costumes, including the piano performance. The band closed the set with the cover of Eiffel 65’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee),” with the entire metal crowd happily singing along.
