It was a blistering cold night in New England as Slayer guitarist and co-founder Kerry King unleashed a hellish sonic assault upon the small Boston nightclub, The Royale for his first North American Headline Tour. King’s band is made up of metal legends that include Mark Osegueda of Death Angel on vocals, former Vio-lence and Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel, Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders, and Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph.
As the house lights dimmed and the band’s intro started, the loud roar of the crowd seemed to erupt at once. As the band took the stage with guitarist Kerry King, starting the opening riff of “Where I Reign.” The band was firing on all cylinders, with King’s band playing many songs off of Kerry’s solo record From Hell I Rise (Reigning Phoenix Music, review here). There were a few Slayer songs mixed in and a few surprising covers in the nearly twenty-song setlist.

This tour had some fantastic opening bands! Richmond, Virginia’s Municipal Waste provided a killer night of sleazy Crossover madness that they can only do. Frontman Tony Foresta’s playful banter with the moshers between songs made for a great, fun set.
Hailing from the far-off land of New Zealand, Alien Weaponry provided a spectacular opening set to pump up the kids waiting for this show to kick off.
