In a story Ghost Cult has been following the last few days, this past weekend’s Messe des Morts festival was interrupted and ultimately shutdown over the inclusion controversial Polish band Graveland.

Messe des Morts was scheduled to close on Saturday, November 26 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, was canceled “for safety reasons” following a protest against one of the event’s performers with alleged ties to white supremacist groups. Varrying accounts had the protesters attacking festival attendees (150 tickets were available for the sold-out event) and staff of the venue.

The Polish band Graveland, which was scheduled to appear at the Théâtre Plaza, has drawn criticism for the National Socialist political views of singer Robert “Rob Darken” Fudali.

The festival’s organizers have released the following statement regarding the decision to call off the event: “For safety reasons, we are forced to cancel tonight’s concert. Know that the Théâtre Plaza’s administration, as well as the Messe Des Morts’ organisation have put every effort to find another conclusion. Despite this announcement, we invite you to go back home calmly and to show the same respect you have shown since the festival’s début. Understand that we cannot give you further details for the moment.”

Yesterday the festival organizers made an impassioned plea on their Facebook account

IMPORTANT – À PARTAGER / SHARE IT

For all those who asked us who they should contact to express their outrage about yesterday’s cancellation

———————————–

For those who want to share their outrage with the media, or that were the victims of violence yesterday evening and during the night, we have prepared a contact list. It is important that you make yourselves heard to make sure such circumstances never happen again, so write to them all if you have the time and tell them how angry you are about this, BUT IN A CIVILIZED MANNER. We appeal in particularly to those who traveled a long way to see the fest and had their travel spoiled, as well as those who were the victims of violent acts, since the media does not seem to have covered that other side of the coin. Some of these media are French obviously, but they can receive English messages and will be able to understand them.
