This Norwegian trio blast through 9 songs of screamy post-punk hardcore that will make you want to break your mom’s China set. IEatHeartAttacks seems to have a ton of EPs under their belt and Please Just Dance Death (Fysisk Format) contains some of their older tracks revisited on it.
It’s not an overly polished recording, but perfect for a trio blazing through some throaty Hardcore tunes.
There’s definitely a Thrash quality to the recording which blends the instruments together while the snare drum hammers through. The drums bring chaos and intensity that match the vocals, while the guitar and bass layer a throbbing low-end. ‘Liar’ is a perfect opener with lots of tempo changes and chaotic dark guitars. ‘Refuge Tropicana’ and ‘MIA’ have post-punky guitar intros which really distinguish them from the rest of the songs.
‘Drowning Is My New Favourite Thing’ lashes out with great guitar elements, drum fills, and dare I say… a catchy chorus. It starts with a basic drum intro, while the bridge could almost be a classic American Hardcore song. It’s my favourite song.
‘Please Just Dance Death’ is flooded in muddy, dark guitars, interesting drum stops and is almost centered around some heavy bass riffs. ‘Black Hearts’ closes out the record with some impressive drum work weighing on the Thrashy Hardcore side and exits with noisy guitars, much like the record enters. I almost wish the drums had a bit more clarity, though, since some of the fills and changes are great.
Please Just Dance Death comes off as very lively, urgent and engaging, which is great for the first record of any band. It’s definitely not hardcore reinvented but will feed the appetite of any modern hardcore fan.
