ALBUM REVIEW: Frozen Crown – War Hearts

Frozen Crown is a blossoming band that has captured the pep, passion, and potency of the Power Metal genre.

Hailing from Italy, this ambitious bunch has been hard at work making their name known. Their creative juices have been flowing because they just released an album last year and now, they are already dropping their fifth full-length record, War Hearts (Napalm Records).

With the recent addition of guitarist Alessia Lanzone, this is the first release that has all six members playing on it and the extra oomph can be heard.

This debut with Napalm Records and the addition of another member prompts a fresh start for the band. The title of the album captures their next chapter by drawing from Children Of Bodom’s “Warheart”’ which is on the iconic album Hatebreeder. They were inspired by the hungry, unrefined zeal of COB because it has clearly been applied to this new material.

The album begins by jumping in with both feet on the title track. The energy level starts high as the solidly substantial vocals of Giada Etro immediately hits along with the multiple spry guitars singing.

The speed, synths, and sonorous instrumentation all cohesively smack the senses on each song. The galloping guitars on “Steel And Gold” and the fantastical whimsy on “Edge Of Reality” all inspire one to buy a sword and head into battle.

Pieces like “Night Of The Wolf” and “Bloodlines” paint a punchy, perky picture by immersive storytelling abilities. The intricate velocity, shred-tastiness, and technicality from each string player would make Herman Li from Dragonforce proud.

There are multiple catchy choruses that rouse the spirits and the girthy weight provided by the bottom end shine on the more groove-driven numbers like “On Silver Wings” and “I Am The Wind.” The last two songs have some Wintersun vibes for their anthemic level of grandiosity. There is an extra bite to their uplifting playing which can be heard in the additional crunch and complexity in the guitars. This next chapter from Frozen Crown is proving to be their best one yet.
