Jehan Fillat, former head of Apathia Records, launches his new project, Aeger Anima, with the debut EP The Falling Leaves, from eerie sounds. It’s a black metal record rooted in the anti-war poetry of the First World War. The video for “Dulce Et Decorum Est” is out now. Stream it below.

Aeger Anima, Latin for “Sick Soul,” sits squarely in the atmospheric black metal tradition but refuses to stay there. Brutal, unexpected rhythm shifts collide with electronic intrusions that veer toward psytrance territory, most strikingly on the self-titled track. The poetic roots run deep: “I Have a Rendezvous with Death” sets Alan Seeger’s words to music, “Dulce Et Decorum Est” draws on Wilfred Owen, and the EP’s title comes from the work of Margaret Postgate Cole.

The video for “Dulce Et Decorum Est” was edited by Fillat and features narration by Sergio Baldelli, originally recorded for LibriVox as a public-domain release. Movie excerpts come from Lewis Milestone’s 1930 film All Quiet on the Western Front, which entered the public domain in 2026. The Aeger Anima logo was designed by Marianne Plasse.

Fillat led Apathia Records from 2009 to 2019, a label recognized for uncompromising avant-garde metal releases. The Falling Leaves marks his first project since closing that chapter.
