“Hell” is a big ‘ol’ whopping leap into songwriting territory that we’re very familiar with, but in a completely new package. This is one of those songs that we didn’t really set out to make, but just came together in a great way. We had plenty of “Aha!” moments during the process, and we ended up with a song that we’ve got a lot of faith in. We’re anticipating that this will satiate our heavy music listeners pretty well.” – Brian Butcher, lead vocalist.

The Home Team hit the ground running in 2023 with touring, wrapping up a headlining tour in early spring, and joining the stage with acts such as Senses Fail, Don Broco, The Used and label mates Honey Revenge. The band has new music in the works for 2024, hitting the studio with names such as Zach Jones. Fans can catch The Home Team on tour in Australia with Caskets, tickets are now available here.

More from The Home Team:
Hailing from Seattle, Washington The Home Team strives to create an atmosphere of wonderment and originality within their genre of Heavy-pop. “When an album really spoke to me, there was a mystique and a lot of wonder about it that really captured me.” Says lead vocalist Brian Butcher, “There was nothing that could replace it. When I hear someone has listened to our album 100 times, that’s what makes it feel greater than the four of us, that’s what I want The Home Team to be for our listeners.

Formed in 2013 by drummer Daniel Matson and guitarist John Baran off the heels of touring in their respective metal bands, they showed no signs of slowing down as they created a new line-up. “John [Baran] and I were both the guys in our metal bands that wanted to do music for a living.” Says Matson on the conception of The Home Team. “Eventually we found Brian [Butcher] in 2015, who auditioned as a genuine fan as he was the first person to buy our first EP off Bandcamp and Ryne [Olson] we knew from his previous band For The Likes Of You. He filled in for a 3-day run, then the first real thing we did was in 2019 when we opened four dates for Don Broco, he permanently joined from there.

The Home Team emerges from more traditional pop-punk and metal influences; they have introduced stylings of R&B, pop and funk into their music in an effort to be true to their tastes while crafting their heavy pop sound. The band has gone to great lengths to be creatively genuine with their audience, which has rewarded them many times over with an extremely dedicated and passionate fan base. However, the band continues to stay true to their DIY roots when reflecting on touring and much more. “We really focused on DIY touring when we first got started. We booked our own tours for years, when the industry wasn’t interested we said fuck it, we’ll do it ourselves and we’ll keep going until people are interested.” Says Matson about where they originated from. “We may be new to the attention we’re getting, but we’re not new to being a band.

One important element to the band is their ability to create memorable music videos that draw fans and new listeners in. “John [Baran] would come up with the idea and I would come up with the execution. We always wanted there to be a point, we never wanted it to be a visual cool performance video. That kinda just checks a box for a release, we always want it to be more than just us performing.

The band expands on their experience working with the Thriller team. “Anyone that we talked to who had worked with Bob [Becker], said he was great and had great experiences with him. He genuinely cares about the music.” Says Matson about signing to Thriller Records. “We’re in the music business, so business is a major part of it but he genuinely cares about the art and keeping the artist happy. It was pretty apparent the belief that Thriller had in us.
