Slipknot has notched another legit commercial “hit” on their belt as the single for the track “Unsainted” single was certified gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America) on October 7 for accumulating 500,000 certified units. According to the RIAA, one equivalent song unit is equal to a single digital song sale, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams. Slipknot dropped their new album We Are Not Your Kind earlier this month via Roadrunner. Drummer and YouTuber Maren Alford uploaded an amazing playthrough cover of ‘Unsainted’. Loudwire posted about the video earlier in the week, and it went viral. Alford, who is 14 and drums for an “all-girl power trio” called Not Ur Girlfrenz. “Jay Weinberg is one of my favorite drummers, and I’m excited to cover one of his songs,” wrote Alford in the video’s description. “The moment I heard Slipknot ‘Unsainted’ I knew this was the one! In a career full of huge achievements, Slipknot toppled another one last night. They headlined the vaunted Iowa State Fair in their home town of Des Moines Iowa, and it was a banger. The fair is no stranger to metal after Metallica headlined their in the 1990s, but it’s definitely not par for the course. The band played pretty much the same setlist they have during the Knotfest Roadshow Tour so far but definitely included a few more recent songs, including ‘Unsainted ‘from We Are Not Your Kind. As expected Slipknot decimated Los Angeles as the band performed ‘Unsainted’ and ‘All Out Life’ live on Jimmy Kimmel Live! To a national broadcast audience last night (May 17th). The band played on the outdoor stage outside the studio to a packed standing-room crowd. Only ‘Unsainted’ aired during the program, which is taped in front of a live studio audience and produced by 12 05 AM Productions LLC in association with Jackhole Industries and ABC Studios. Slipknot’s sixth album, “We Are Not Your Kind”, which will be released on August 9 via Roadrunner Records. The song’s accompanying video was directed by the band’s own M. Shawn Crahan. We Are Not Your Kind was once again recorded at a Los Angeles studio with producer Greg Fidelman (Slayer, Metallica), who engineered and mixed Slipknot’s 2004 album Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) and helmed 2014’s .5: The Gray Chapter. Welp, the wait is over. We finally got a sample of Slipknot album number six and the sound of it is good so far. It turns out ‘All Out Life, surprise released last Halloween is not on the new album, but what a good advertisement that track is when it says the album title over and over in it. The band has been promising brutal new music in their interviews, so we finally get to be the judge of that. Every band says their new album is their best. Slipknot, no a stranger to bravado and backing up, but they have been careful to steer clear of such a prediction. 2016’s .5: The Grey Chapter (Roadrunner Records) was phenomenal, so surely the pressure to perform is there.
