ALBUM REVIEW: Skáld – Huldufólk


Steeped in Nordic mythology, France’s Skáld draw extensively on traditional folk music and employ the Old Norse language for many of their lyrics. Huldufólk (Decca / Universal Music) is the group’s fourth full-length release and is themed around the subject of its title: huldufólk, or “hidden people” is the name given to the mythical beings — elves, dwarves, trolls — that populate Nordic folklore. Moreover, according to the press release accompanying this record, the work honours “an entire people in whom many Scandinavians still believe”.

Megadeth’s New Album Hits Number Three On The Billboard Charts, Tops Other Charts Worldwide and Launches New NFT’s


Megadeth has earned its highest charting album worldwide in the band’s history for the debut of its new album The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! Read our review here. The album has taken the No. 3 spot on the Billboard 200 marking their eighth Top Ten album of their career, and matching the chart impact of the band’s last album, the Grammy-winning Dystopia. The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!  total Consumption was 47,552, and pure Album Sales were 44,781, placing the album at No.1 on Top Album Sales, Top Current Albums Sales, Top Rock & Alternative Album, Top Rock Albums, and Top Hard Rock Albums charts respectively, and at No. 2 on the Vinyl Album Sales chart.

ALBUM REVIEW: Def Leppard – Diamond Star Halos


Seven years after their previous, eponymously titled, album Def Leppard are back with Diamond Star Halos (UMG). It is a long gap between records and right from the off their trademark arena-ready hard rock is in full swing in ‘Take What You Want’ – with it’s crunching chords and touches of On Through The Night. The first three tracks conform to their trademark sound, with the seventies-inspired, glam stomper ‘Kick’ one of the highlights – they have compensated for the familiarity by stuffing it full of hooks. ‘Fire It Up’ is a hard rocker with a slinky little riff and daft and hackneyed lyrics designed purely for a singalong.

Rammstein Adds Coventry UK Date To European Tour 2020, Tickets On Sale Now


Rammstein fever continues to sweep up the world on the strength of their recent s/t release (Universal Music Group). After recently wrapping up the first round of European stadium dates, the band has announced their tour of next summer in Europe with an all-new stage show, with tickets on sale as of last week and moving fast. Now the band has added another date, Ricoh Arena, in Coventry UK on Saturday 20th June 2020, succeeding Stadium MK as the band’s biggest ever UK headline show too. Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody Is The Most Streamed Song From The 20th Century


Bolstered by the runaway smash hit (roughly $168 million at the box office in five weeks) of the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody (20th Century Fox), Queen’s classic song ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is now officially the most-streamed track from the 20th century, achieving more than 1.6 billion global streams. Universal Music Group (UMG) announced the news and Billboard made the report that also indicated the track has also become it the most-streamed classic rock song of all time, edging out Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Sweet Child O’Mine’ and ‘November Rain’ and a-ha’s ‘Take on Me’ in both categories. The ranking considers all registered streams on global on-demand streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, and others, as well as streams from an official song or video streams on YouTube.Continue reading
